I am sure many people (myself included) that are trying to improve would like some pro and more advanced players to analyze their games.

The first game I would like to be analyzed is this:

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=5578276

At the beginning of the game I was messing around and not very serious. When the opponent took West Russia I knew I had to do something fast and I began to be more focused. I would like to know if my picks were good, when in the game was the turning point, what could've I done better?

i like the picks. well done by going through hawaii to make him have to choose between different places. also good that you expanded while fighting, but be careful, if he had his first move before yours one round, you would have problems. one thing you could have done better is to make sure you get the china bonus by attacking with 4, an unlucky miss by attacking with 3 can and have ruined many winnerchances.

I know it's not so very sensitive to start right out with criticism, but you made an insane amount of mistakes.

Plexo had the better picks, going for SA and CA as 1st and 2nd was something you should have done. Even though he himself played terribly, he still would have won if you wouldnt have beat him several times on first move order. A pro player would not have given that game away.

Picking mistakes:
Try to avoid open space bonuses as picks. That means bonuses that are so open and so prone to being broken, that defending them in midgame is a nightmarish close to impossible task. China was such a bonus and it was bad not only in this regard. The combo with southeastasia meant a serious delay in completing the next bonus (southeastasia) once china was finished. Again only plexos bad play prevented him from exploiting this situation and gaining another advantage.

Bonus completion mistakes:
Don't risk the failure of completing a bonus in the late game if you have no valid reason to do so. The failed 3vs2 attack in indonesia was completely unneccessary. Not to mention the 1st round split of attack towards jiangxi and taiwan. You can not risk a 3vs2 to attack in jiangxi in this situation, because it connects to Beijing in the next turn.

Bonus breaking mistakes:
Why would you attack moscow turn 8 and not ufa? You again took unnecessary risks by going for moscow. Hardly any scenario in which he could have prevented his bonus being broken by an attack against ufa, plenty of scenarios for a failure against moscow.

I appreciate the honesty and constructive criticism. I do acknowledge my picking mistakes although I will say I was testing new strategies at that time (preparing for the ladder). When the opponent surprised me in West Russia I panicked and ended up playing poorly and succeeding only due to luck. I admit I made a lot of mistakes mainly due to me being panicky after being attack in Russia. I appreciate the criticism and hope for more advise from you in the future. I would like to remind you that I have only started actively playing warlight about a month ago and I am relevantly new to the game and especially Medium Earth map.

I don't like it when you say: Well I was just testing things.. and I'm new..

Excuses. Why don't you just say you won't make those mistakes again? I'm doubtful the advice really soaked in.

for once i completely agree with Lolowut, its one of the annoying things i encounter when i tutor. You want my advise, but when you get it you try to contradict me or make excuses.

a bit hypercritical though, since your overlord makes the same excuses too ;)

No no no no no, I think you misunderstood what I meant or I phrased it in the wrong way. What I was trying to say was I highly appreciate the advise and I will use it. I was no trying to excuse my actions when I was saying that I am new, what I MENT to say was that those mistakes came from my inexperience and WITH the new advice and more games being played in the future I will hope to improve and not make those mistakes... I apologize if that sounded hypocritical but in now way I was making up excuses.

Here's another game to analyze:

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=5594784

I ended up booting the opponent when he obviously abandoned the game (his boot rate is 20%). I think I did alright although I think my picks could have been better. I will appreciate any sorts of criticism as long as it's constructive and helpful.

I think I lost this one on picks. I was trying to spread out in order to quickly determine where my opponent is. Any suggestions on better picks on this map?

@Grigsius:

Play better opponents, please. There is no use in analyzing games against random weaklings without the most rudimentary understanding of how to play Warlight. Posting these games is just spam. Invite some top-players to games with you, then we're talking.

@Samurai Zach:

You both pick rather wild in this game (yeah, you were drunk). Sure, the distribution here wasn't that easy to pick, but swisster doesn't give a shit about russia at all and you place a 3rd on caucasus & 2/4 central america/west us?
The conservative choice would've been better here, doing a 1st on baja, 2/3 in africa, rest around russia and you will know pretty much all of your opponent's spots and can reach them alright (a bit of travelling from africa to russia, granted, but good players seldom pick russia hard); esp. antarctica is busted quickly.
with the picks you ultimately got your plan was okay-ish and the game not lost when you surrendered. you have to blockade antarctica and bust the blockade in mexico quickly then you still have good counterplay with 14v14 income. in case you foresee pakistan you can very well still win it as you have a free way to indonesia and australia while your stuff would be fairly safe.
