Do you have any clue why the US Dollar is so weak these days?

@Ranek: Since you aren't particularly fond of Donald Trump I guess I can see where your question is going ;)

However on a more serious note, I have been monitoring the Euro Dollar exchange rates for some time and maybe I can share some of my amateurish thoughts.

As for the impacts of the Dollar getting weaker, this directly benefits the USA and this in fact has been one of Trumps goals. On the other hand a strong Euro is especially troublesome for the export oriented German economy.

As for the reasons of the Euro getting stronger, I'm not entirely sure what is just plain speculation and what market proponents truly think about the underlying data. There is no way the European central bank can raise the key interest rates in the mid future. Countries like obviously Greece and I guess also quite some other European countries like Italy would go immediately bankrupt if they would have to pay some real interest rates on their bonds. Despite it currently not being that much in the news Europe is still very prone to get hit by "black swans" and just because the French didn't vote for Le Pen doesn't mean that everything is sunshine now. On the other hand I don't know exactly where to put the US economy currently, there seems to be some troublesome data but you have to look for yourself.

As for myself I would anytime prefer the US over a socialist Europe where a ton of it's member states are only kept artificially alive by cheap money.

To add to that, on 4/12 Trump said USD was too strong (it fell right afterward). Weaker dollar means we get more exports and tourism (in theory) since buying American products/services is cheaper for foreigners. It also means our imports and vacations outside the country get more expensive.

On the other hand I don't know exactly where to put the US economy currently, there seems to be some troublesome data but you have to look for yourself.

Yeah, seems like we're in a real weird place right now (and I don't mean politically). Third-longest expansionary period in the post-WWII era, right?

Don't think anyone's really explained why the dollar's been falling for the past few months, but you can see some finer-grained analysis here: http://www.marketwatch.com/topics/columns/currencies

It's a variety of reasons, but a lot of it is political anxiety. Rose slightly after the jobs report, but dipped before that due to the GDP report. Perhaps just gradually plunging confidence?

Personally I'm a fan of a stronger dollar relative to other currencies, but to each their own.

Even though it perfectly matches with trumps legislation period, I doubt he has that much influence. Especially after an increasing number of CEO turns their backs on him.
I was rather interested in possible reasons for the decrease. maybe this fluctuation level is quite usual and doesnt really effect the economy. Thanks for your comments though.

Isn´t the USA bankrupt already?-In Obama´s period of reign it was near to.

And Detroit is already bankrupt as far as I know. So how do you keep Detroit alive?
I guess with cheap money. XDD

It was not supposed to be a joke. Detroit went bankrupt just recently, either at the end of 2016 or during the first half of 2017.
However it went bankrupt. Check the news, mate.

I didn't mean the bankrupcy. I meant the 'cheap money' joke regarding Detroit. It is what it is. And again, it is what it is.

Last time I checked the USA debt is growing and growing and growing and only a legislation passed by the congress prevented it from being *officially* bankrupt. Not sure how the situation is now.

I personally hope the oil economy finally really collapses. I accept the consequences.
I personally support that too. However a slow fall would be better, than an abrupt, because that would screw the developed world over.

The debt is growing because of usury.

@Prussian: we have high public debt relative to GDP but that's not nearly the same thing as bankruptcy. Government debt works very differently from personal debt; it's not so much a pressing issue (will be in a few generations) as an indicator that our government has not been that great at investing money

You can find some more stuff on this at https://www.quora.com/Does-a-very-high-sovereign-debt-to-GDP-ratio-mean-that-a-national-economy-is-under-performing.

I think Mark Rogowsky's answer to a similar question really encapsulates the issue and our options well: https://www.quora.com/What-are-ways-to-get-rid-of-the-US-national-debt
