Hi there

Out of curiousity, I'd like to know which kind of map you prefer. Especially due to gameplay (competitive [FFAs and 1v1], diplo, roleplay) and mapsize. Do you also have further preferences, like: real world or fictional maps, special designs (for example Hexagon-maps, or artistic backgrounds), special map features (natural obstacles, river ways etc., highlighted super bonus regions), specific mapmakers, unusual bonus systems or whatever comes in your mind.

What kind of map, that doesnt already exist, would you like to see in warlight?

is the map I like the most so far, the creativity of the bonus system combined with the accurate drawing is just perfect. Lionheart and I are working on a map with a similar bonus system which will combine special map features such as rivers and mountains with an highly strategic gameplay and I can not wait to publish it. :)

My favorite maps are World Nations 2016, Middle Earth Big, Avatar - The Last Airbender, and Thirty Years War (1618-1648). All three have great art and can be used for Diplos as well as FFAs. Oh and maybe we should make a list of the 50 best maps? Links: https://www.warlight.net/Map/25937-World-Nations-2016 https://www.warlight.net/Map/8623-Middle-Earth-Big

A map that I would love to see is a map of the Europe area of AND North America. Just thought it should be separate so it would be easier to see.

the system is great, but the map is not so great due to it's illegibility. Looking forward for any map utilizing similar ideas though.

Medium Earth by Fizzer I'll mention since it's likely nobody else will. For strat maps most mapmakers seem to just think about the mixture of bonuses around each other, while in medium Earth each bonus is really different in how the territories are setup. This makes picking more interesting and how bonus shapes can change games late game.

An example of the opposite is the discoevery template on MDL, that's just a blob of bonuses where all you do is look for ftbs and counters.

You're stealing all my thoughts. I forgive you though!

Rise of Rome for the nostalgia!

I really like the maps of Lionheart, mulligan and the Old town series of Ranek.

As for maps i would like to see. I really like the idea behind Triskelion (https://www.warlight.net/Map/13957-Triskelion) and the Hexagon maps, so i would probably like to see some other interesting geometrical shaped maps!

Lionheart and I are working on a map

What kind of map is that?

in medium Earth each bonus is really different in how the territories are setup

so you mean the diversity of combinations among the bonus territories? So you rather prefer smaller maps, that avoid repeatation of certain bonus territory setups? could you elaborate how specific bonus shapes change the game?

A map that I would love to see is a map of the Europe area of AND North America.

sounds like a good idea to set up a map during the first european settlements in north america.

The best map in both gameplay and art is the map Ares:
https://www.warlight.net/Map/19129-Ares

Enumeration why it's the best map:
  • Map size is good for various gameplay;
  • flawless territory borders and bonus borders;
  • square and round Bonus Links with no yellow frame;
  • bonus window with high detailed flags and symbols as decoration;
  • dotted connection lines that look like its hand draw with High detailed schips;
  • the well balanced bonuses and distribution mode make it appropriate for auto distribution games;
  • territory names are all from the map theme or real mythical names so you get an interesting wiki page-link;
  • remaining continent collerd the same gray as warlight use in this text frame, and the light gray of the ships and dotted connection lines are the same as the gray of the territories;
  • By making the territories all around the same size, i could make the map size smaller than Rise of Rome, while having more territories, so you can still read the figures while playing on mobile and zoomed out.

There's always a bias towards older maps and Scrabble is quite old.

I like world maps and maps of bigger regions, mostly diplomacy maps since I almost exclusively play diplomacy role play games.

Geopolitics 2016 is currently the best map for diplomacy.

I would make 2 sections - for strat games and casual ones.
For strat, I think Strategic Greece and Europe are my favorites. From newer ones, Sri Lanka and First Nations of Americas (both made by Lionheart).
For casual, I like big maps like (in no particular order) Triskelion, Land of Kalador, 12 cities, Orbis Veteribus Notus and Roads of Silk and Iron.

Newer maps are often better because the map makers can learn from past mistakes and try to improve the design.
