This is more important: the Russian, French and Norwegian skaters have decided not to do the 10 km because they don't stand a chance against the Dutch!

Okay, now that the patriotic haze has settled I must say that this is really sad that I don't really understand their decision.

Why skate 10km and tire yourself out if you know you don't stand a chance anyway, that way you'll be way more fitter for the team pursuit. It actually makes a lot of sense.

Someone hasn't been paying much attention I see. Assuming both win their quarterfinal games, Canada and USA will meet in the semi-finals to determine who moves onto the gold-medal game.

Although you are right, he might have meant that (now Russia is out) the match USA vs. Canada will detimire who wins the golden medal.
In other words, whoever wins that semi-final will most likely win gold.

Russia isn't out. They play Norway in the qualifiers. The US win over Russia was merely a meaningless preliminary game that only impacted standings that determine brackets.

Sport is about participating, not about winning. (well, that's what you are supposed to think I guess...)

:P I am predicting its going to be USA vs Canada for gold and silver, and Russia vs whoever for bronze!! Either team that Canada faces for Gold or Bronze is going to be extremely interesting, i would say the 3 teams are very balanced... :D
