Hi everybody,

as you can imagine it's my first time trying to create a Warlight Map. That leads me to some basic questions, which maybe have allready been awnsered somewhere else in this forum - please be patient ^^

here we go:
1. how can I insert text into my map? I insert textboxes with inkscape, but they are not shown in the warlight editor.
2. I have minor, superior and super bonusses in my map, but i just want the colours of the minor bonusses for the territories. sometimes conditions are changed after saving my progress and i have the colours of my super or superior bonusses again.
3. I made dashed lines with inkscape which are just straight in the editor.

I would really appreciate your help with my issues

by the way this is what my map looks like in the moment:

greets Ranek

Read the guides readily available. Please spend some time reviewing that information, especially in the wiki and the map development forum. You'll find your answers are all there.

I can't really help you, but what a great looking map that is!

There's the wiki

http://wiki.warlight.net/index.php/Map_Making

Apparently you need to turn the embedded text into paths somehow. The colours which display, if I remember correctly depend on the order in which you make the bonuses, although I can't remember if it's the last or first which is used.

1. You have to change the text into paths I believe. There is a button like "convert to path" or something (Don`t know the english name, since I don`t have the english version of Inkscape)

2. If a territory belongs to two bonuses and it is the wrong colour, simply edit, the bonus it should give the colour of, in the WL editor. Go to the bonus menu and click the bonus you want the territory to be coloured like and click "edit". This should be good.

3. I don`t know why this is happening for you. A Dashed line should be a dashed line. Although if the lines are close together on InkScape, WL puts them together sometimes. I guess you could try and take lines with a little more space between two parts/dashes

Warlight converts all lines to 1 pt straight lines, you have to expand it, i don't know what inkscape calls this option but basically you have to make it an object. There are a lot of tutorials in the mapmaking forum try searching and reading some of them before you start they can be quite useful.

1. Select the text and use Path->Object to Path (or Ctrl+Shift+C).
2. Select the bonus you want not to be visible in the territory border colour, and uncheck and check the box saying those territories are part of that bonus. That fixes it.
3. Select the line and use Path->Object to Path (or Ctrl+Shift+C).

thanks for your replay =)

at Discard: thanks for the hint and the praise =) I will try some possibilities with inkscape

at Min34: I can change the colours as you said, as long i save my progress, close the editor and load the map again - then everything is like it was...
I further removed the checkmarks and changed the order of appearance - but that doesnt change anything at all.

at Incaman: do you remember the name of the threads?

at oobling: Thanks, I will change that =)

at Moros: I will try that - thanks in advance =)

does somebody know how to create scenario distributions within the warlight editor?

Use the distribution window. For special distributions (where certain territories always go to certain players) you need to use scenario distribution, otherwise use regular.

For scenario distributions, you need to enter the name of each slot in the box that appears, one under the other.

Once this is done, just click a territory and select which distribution(s) you want it to be part of.

Anyone can add custom distributions to their own maps, such as Warlords or Cities on Medium Earth, or the custom ones which give specific spots to specific players like on the Diplomacy Map and others I can't recall.

Its been a bit, but let me recall from memory.

In Map Making, open distribution window. Create a new distribution, name it and select if it is normal or a scenario.

Normal distributions, everyone can choose.
Scenario Distributions, you divvy them up based on number of teams. A can take only territories 1, 2, 3. B can take only 4, 5, 6, etc. Typically used to set up a North/South or East West, or on symmetrical maps, to give equal spacing between teams.

Then, click on a territory and assign it to the distribution. You can have a territory in multiple distributions.

Distributions make the maps playable and are a very important part of the game. Think about how the players will use the distribution to create/play games. Do you want a good auto-pick distribution? Do you want manual picks? How many territories will they have? Are all of the picks in similar size bonuses or are half of them in small quick bonuses and the other half in impossibly large bonuses?

Default distributions include: Full (All territories), Random Warlords (One territory randomly selected per bonus), and Random Cities (All but 1 randomly selected territories part of the bonus for picking).

These are okay, but when superbonuses get involved and there is a big distribution of large and small bonuses, these default distributions can make the map a function of 100% luck rather than strategy.

If you have a complicated scenario/distribution, the best way to check that you got it all right is to create a game (Single Player if need be) and check the territories able to be selected. You can do this quickly in the game creation window, or more fully during territory selection. If doing scenarios, set up a game where each player gets 100 territories and start it. If they start where you wanted them to, you got it. Its nearly impossible to check it 100% inside the map editor.

Note that you are now allowed to select a bonus link and assign it (you don't have to click a territory itself). You can also hold CTRL and select a bunch of territories (if not try shift), then assign them. Unfortunately you cannot select multiple bonus links, but the other two enhancements made scenarios MUCH better at creating.

Hi I want to set an image(.svg) and in inkscape everything is fine and looks like it should be, but in warlight editor, when i zoom out, the thin lines become massive - they are loosing their proportions. is there anything i can do to keep the proportions as i want them, even if i zoom out?

Nope :-(
I know the problem. It happens when that image contains lines with strokes that are smaller than 0,5 pixel. There is no real solution to this.
