That is a good idea Lob, I like the idea of having to defeat the creator if you want the prize.

Big 1v1 tournaments are cool. But let's cut to the chase: only 10-30 of the 500+ players joining such a tournament have a chance to win. The rest are cannon fodder. And if you are one of the 10-30 and are eliminated due to bad luck, you have to wait for the next single- or double-elimination tournament to have a chance to win a membership.

I think it'd be great if somebody made a membership tournament like this: http://WarLight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?TournamentID=2081.

These are 99% of the top non-members capable of winning such a tournament. I'd guess there are less than five people not invited to the above tournament who could actually win it.

Is anyone interested in making such a tournament? Adding light fog would be cool (so people could follow the games).

Or, is somebody willing to provide a membership for the winner of the above tournament? (I wish I could, but I live off $50 a week for food & transportation and cut back too much on expenses as it is.)

Gui, if you really want to get the best players youll have 20 round robins and the winner of each will play in the championship round robin. That would take a very long time but will tell you the top player better than anything else will.

you're assuming there are 400 top players and nobody can differentiate player 1 from player 400.

hhh and i have hosted about 20-25 1v1 RRs for top-notch players and another 20 or so regular 1v1 tournaments. i am less uncertain about who can and can't win such a tournament.

in fact, for the 1v1 RRs that hhh or i host, the players could be roughly broken down in this way: more than 80% of those invited deserve an invitation bc they offer good competition; less than 20% deserve an invitation bc they are capable of winning the tournament.

it takes more than good looks and a decent understanding of the 1v1 game to beat guys invited to the above tournament. someone who thinks he is good but who has never faced these guys before would be lucky to win 5 of 19 games.

I'm not trying to start a heated debate with the tournament I am running. I am doing a 512 person tournament because that is how I won mine and I want to continue that tradition.

I don't really want to limit the tournament to the 32 or so good players I know, as I am sure there are other good players out there. Maybe you guys have a better understanding of who exactly belongs in that top player group, but I don't want to leave any deserving player out just because I have never played them.

Fine maybe luck will make it so "the best" player does not win, but defining "the best" has been a continuous problem for us (look at Gui's best 1v1 player RR attempts). I just want a good player that can compete in the ladder to win, and I am sure that will happen regardless of luck.

this thread seems to be a catch-all for any new membership tournament. so i added ideas.

i like any tournament that provides an opportunity for players to win a membership. i won my membership in a best of 7 series. it was fun. i view a round-robin as a combination of a best of series and an elimination tournament: why not combine the fun of both into one tournament? the more free membership tournaments going at once, the better: i know of at least 20 people i wish had memberships.

but why should 1v1 games determine so much? a random team membership tournament for 'the best teammate' would be cool too:

- get a certain number of players that meet a certain open seat requirement (eg, 55%+ winning % in 2v2s, 3v3s and 4v4s, 200+ total games played).
- invite each player to a fixed number of random team 3v3s and/or 4v4s (the more games, the better: 10-15 games would be good), with 2-4 games going at once per player.
- whichever player wins the most games gets a membership (the organizer shouldn't disclose results until the end, though).
-in case of a tie: the top 2+ players can draft teammates from among participating players and play a best of 3 series (if there are 2 top players) or have a round-robin (if there are 3 or more top players).

Also Evreux, your tournament doesnt include the best players. no offense to rosston but he is not as good as many nonmembers that you didnt invite to this tournament. Kantos, Master, and DagenDaDragon are better than rosston just to name a few.

I don't like being singled out. You should've made your point without singling anyone out, just saying I think these players, x,y,z are worthy would have sufficed.

I think I should and will be able to hold my own in this tournament, even if i don't win.

I appreciate the invite, and unless am asked to leave plan on giving it a go.

I am sorry rosston but youre one of the few ive played out of those invited and some others who werent invited are better than you. I think you will be able to do good in the tournament, I was just meaning that some very good nonmembers have been left out. Good luck in it. I hope you do surprise some people and win it!

i like to give 1-3 new players a chance to play with the big boys. rosston has improved on a daily basis. if you are basing your judgment of him on the past and not the present, it isn't wise.

One of the [best players](http://warlight.net/Profile.aspx?p=202386428) I have faced in 1v1 contests. Very difficult player who I'd rate against the names I have seen mentioned here.

Just my two cents.

I know rosston is good. I just used him as an example because hes one of the few ive seen and yes, i saw him play about 3 weeks ago and i beat him (granted he did get bad positioning). I know hes better than me and deserves to be there. I was just meaning you didnt invite all the top nonmembers.

I don't have a problem with paying 30 bucks. I have had more hours of fun from this than Diablo 3 so far (which was 60 bucks).

My only hesitation is that my wife thinks these types of games are silly and we have shared finances. With Diablo, I had gift cards to purchase. I can't do that here. I could set aside cash here and there, but there isn't a way to purchase with cash really.

One other factor is an app for ipad. If I had that I would easily drop 30 bucks on it (and figure out justification later). I don't feel like I would play enough to take advantage of my membership without that.

Speaking of which, if there was a member upgrade in the apple store (once that app is done), that would make things easier for some people (who have itunes gift cards).
