Assuming private messaging is turned on in the settings, is it okay to communicate and team with someone else?

Yes, most definitely. Anyone who says otherwise is inserting their own ethics/desires into the game.

This is a moral standpoint. It really depends on you. From a strategic standpoint, most definitely do it. If the host messed up the settings, oh well.

I say yes, but to a point. I have never liked the team up until the end mentality. It means you ignore game balance in order to simply gang up on another player. IMO, all FFA treaties should have terms. Like not attacking without 2 turn notice, or until a certain turn. It should not be an open ended alliance because the game balance changes.

I totally disagree FFA stands for its self and means what it says FREE FOR ALL etc free for all doesn't mean team up allies truces etc, there are other games which u can play that way if you wish. (not FFA) ,, in all my games a place a message in chat or in the main tital any player who teams up I will BL its ffa if you don't want to play FFA then don't join

Teams are okay, as long as their is communication. Bad communication can destroy your team.

Free for all means FREE to do as you please.

The simple fact remains that the rules of Warlight allow for alliances, teaming up and anything else you care to do. Anyone saying you can't do that is injecting their own rules or preferences into the game, simple as that.

There's definitely no problem when PM is on (PM is there only for this reason). In fact not communicating with others will reduce your winning chances.

The only question that really needs to be discussed in an FFA is booting. I'd say if there's no autoboot you wait at least 5 minutes and then boot, but there should always be an autoboot and it should always be respected unless the chap is purposely delaying.

As for teaming up, back-stabbing and the likes -> It's called Free For All for a reason.

I would agree that it is up to your own ethics and standpoint unless the host has stated no teams and turned off PM. Although when i play FFA's i try to keep it as a FFA no matter if PM is on or not since warlight is a lot more fun when it is really a challenge.

I made at least about 500 FFA Games and it´s my favorit style of WL Games.

When i Host a FFA Game i turned the PM off. I like the idea to have a small advantage when some guys team up and yes, i think it´s ok to build a team. But i do NOT.

Often you see Guys making a Team in a final 1v1v1 situation to a 2v1. Nice is to read the chat and i can only advice not to leave the Game when someone team up against you - you still have a good chance to win the game.

Unfair Game Conditions makes some funny endings...
