The only ever good season was the strat 1v1 with random bonus values. otherwise all the other seasons suck

I don't see the problem with Auto dist. I think it makes the game harder.

Back to topic: It would be nice if Fizzer weighed in, especially if it's to say that the template with over 80% downvotes (FFA) gets scrapped from the list.

Yes, but I don't think Fizzer wants to promote templates made popular by single players. This is why things like Guiroma were not added.

He started by adding most of the seasonal templates likely because they were the easiest, since the coding was already there.

Hopefully he'll be willing to add popular templates over time though, particularly one like Guiroma.
