Disappointed in the behavior of veteran player "PetroPL": 5/9/2012 23:30:45

I was in a lovely 3 v 3 multiplayer game that became less and less lovely as people got booted. By the end of turn 4, 3 people had been booted, making it a 2 v 1 game. At this point I politely asked the remaining players to vote to end. My request has been met with a stony silence as the remaining players continue to take their turns.

Perhaps "PetroPL" feels desperate to improve his less-than-mediocre win percentage. Still, I'm surprised that a vet with 1944 games under his belt would feel comfortable playing (and presumably winning) a game by boot. Forgive me for making another "blacklist this player" thread. I think people who enjoy fair play would be well advised to blacklist this player.

To be fair, he had been waiting for a good few days to start the game., and he wasn't the one to do the booting.. He's slightly above the mark at which i'd blacklist somebody though, but thanks for the heads up!

A decent player wouldn't continue to play a 2 v 1 no matter how long the game took to start.

I have mixed feelings on this. If the booting happens before the game starts, then I absolutely VTE if anyone else wants to. If it happens after picks are made, and especially after the first few turns, then I am only willing to do so if it can be shown that neither side is winning.

The first two boots (all autoboots) dropped one person from each team, making it not unfair. The next boot happened two turns later, meaning that the chances of one team being in a winning position by that point are pretty good. Since the game is still under fog, we can't tell who is interacting with who, but I can't fault someone for not wanting to give up a position just because someone abandoned a bad start.

The alternative is that whenever people don't get the picks they want or lose an important early battle, they just leave. Neither solution is great, but I won't blacklist anybody for picking either of them.

I'd agree with Duke.

It's impossible to accurately opine on the situation without seeing the map and army placements. If battle had already been engaged before the boot then VTE could simply be rewarding bad behavior.

You can look at the history, Richard, and see map and army placements. You know this though, so I'm confused by your post.

Just looked at this history... there was no clear advantage prior to the third boot. You had engaged with one of the opposition but there didn't appear to be a clear advantage. Were I in the game I would have VTE'd

I wouldn't have felt as offended as you in that situation. I tend to ask for the vote when that happens in early turns, and I would have voted if asked as you did (unless it was pretty clear that your team was losing anyway). But I don't really accept that your foe is morally obliged to extend that generosity to you. You have a feeling about fair-play that is similar to mine, but you can't demand this of everyone. He wants to play a game, people are getting auto-booted and he wants to carry on. It's not your fault your partners quit, but it's not his either.
