Did you try setting the default file opener back to Inkscape?

Try saving it as Youmapnamehere.**svg**

@Moros:
Modern versions of Windows (since Win XP) default to hiding the file extension. So if a file *looks like* it's called `map.svg`, with hidden extensions it might still be *actually* called `map.svg.txt`.

@Iron:
That would also explain why InkScape can't find it; I expect it to automatically filter which files it shows (to hide stuff it can't open anyway). In the "Open File" dialog window, just below or just to the right (depending on Windows version) of the edit box where you can type a filename, there's a dropdown box where you can select which filetypes to show. Either at the top or bottom of that list will be either an empty line or something along the lines of "Any type (\*.\*)". Try selecting that, then see if you suddenly *do* find your file.
Alternatively, open InkScape and don't try to open the file through the open file dialog (Ctrl+O), but instead open the folder where it is stored and drag-and-drop the file onto the InkScape window.
