Over the last few months there seems to be a little bit of an influx of people creating their own style tournaments/completions which i personally think is great. What i would like to see is the Forum split into a few more categories to cater for this and other bits and Bobs. I would suggest something like the following:

New Player Help A place where new players can ask basic questions without feeling intimidated
Warlight General Discussion
Chit Chat Things not Warlight related
Opponents/Teammates wanted
Tournament, Competition General Discussion a place to talk rules and discuss ideas
Leagues , Tournament & other competitions Once you finalise you start the thread here
Ladder
Map
Bugs
Ideas & Suggestions where you talk about new cards etc

Just a thought. What does everyone else think?

Add an "edit" button and I`ll be happy:)

Why would you have a forum for not-WarLight-related talk?
And the "Map" forum is not really clear. Is it to report bugs about existing maps? To promote a map you've made yourself? To discuss newly made maps? To ask advise for your own map you're making? To share tactics about a specific map with the rest?

And what is there left to discuss on the general discussion sub-forum?

I can understand wanting a non-warlight related forum page, merely to keep the warlight related forum to get clusterf***'d with non warlight related talk... you can easily see it happening already, so why not put a location for those that wish to do it.. Sadly, Imho if the forum gets any larger, I feel the dashboard will need to be player-modifyable, or to have something similar to the dashboard forum location for different locations.. Personally, I tend to check just about every forum post, but many of the categories I would find highly uninteresting and would tend to not want to see them...

+1 for edit button

Why would you have a forum for not-WarLight-related talk?

Because it's gonna happen anyway. If you put it in a dedicated place, you'll keep the rest of the forum a lot cleaner. Besides, this way the system also knows what's offtopic and can deal with it appropriately (for instance, remove inactive topics after one month instead of six).

And what is there left to discuss on the general discussion sub-forum?

There's always something! :) Maybe it's a weird comparison, but on any budget ("begroting") there's an "unforeseen" (is that the normal English word, "onvoorzien" in Dutch), just because there's always something you didn't expect.

My point was: how many topics do you see here that are not related to WarLight? There are none! All topics that have ever been posted on WarLight have something to do with WarLight!
If you can give me 3 links to threads that don't have ANYTHING to do with WarLight, AND are not intended as a joke, then it would be a good idea.

By the way, I'm not really fussed about what this thread is suggesting either way as I read most threads regardless of what category they fall under.

Yes an edit button would be great but thats more to do with the software rather than simple changes. my guess is that if an edit button where possible on these forums then Fizzer would already have it in place.

@Moros-
Forum for non warlight related talks
It is meant to be an online community why does everything we talk about have to be about Warlight. Would be nice for there to be someplace to talk about random things...Mostly Moros because its fun :)

for example i watched the champions league final last night being a chelsea fan. i could post about it on chit chat. Right now if i posted it on these forums i know id be shot down by people like yourself because its off topic. But in my opinion whats wrong with a little off topic chit chat.

Map
Sorry i thought this was clear. This would just be the map development forum we already have in place

Warlight General Discussion
Thats just it general discussion that relates to Warlight. not sure what else i can say on that.

On other gaming forums the threads are generally spit similar to what i suggest and in my opinion it helps a lot in many aspects.

I watched the final too (as a neutral person) and I got to ask, wasn't it a terrible game to watch as a Chelsea fan? I know the answer because they somehow won it, but all they did was defending. I can imagine as fan it's not really fun too only see your team defend.

And to be a bit ontopic, I think it's an good idea you have there.

This has been requested time and time again; if it was gonna happen, it would've happened a long time ago. I have no idea whether it's a deliberate choice to disallow editing or if some part of the code would make it really complicated to allow editing, but either way, don't count on it changing any time soon.

Map
Sorry i thought this was clear. This would just be the map development forum we already have in place

There is something to be said for all the other possibilities Moros mentioned. All of them could still go into "General Discussion" of course, but some (reporting bugs with existing maps) might very well be separated out. Personally I think just keeping the name "Map Development" would be best (because things such as specific tactics seem not to fit in very well and that name would keep them out).

I like the idea, but it would need some finetuning. And if you absolutely want a chit-chat box, I would like the possibility to choose which forum-posts I want to see. For example, on the settings, there would be a list with the different topics you're naming here with checkboxes besides so I can choose to only see Map, Bugs, Ideas & Suggestions, and Warlight General Discussion. That's my suggestion anyway.

No, Neuer is the noob... it's even his name!

OT:
I really think the forum needs more structure and what Mac proposes is one way to do it. I encourage Fizzer to look into this as, IMO, it has become quite obvious there needs something to be done about it.

in regards to the cup final. Yes it was painful to see them completely dominate the game and i have to admit when they scored i thought it was over. But you can just count on Drogba to come up with the goods when we need it the most. Unbelievable player we would be stupid not to offer him another contract. i think he has scored 9 goals in 9 cup finals...amazing!

ohhhh chit chat....i love it :D

OT i dont mean for my idea to be deifinative im just putting across my thoughts but i definitely think that the forum structure needs updating

im guessing the checkbox thing you mean for the overview of all the forum posts. yes i think that would be a great idea. i tend to just click on the actual forum section when reading through posts so this wouldnt affect me so much.

can we create a forum ghetto for the most annoying commenters?

general arun, qadaffi/furious, a certain illiterate who has posted in this thread, and so on. plus those who troll fast and die young: the guy who tried to make the largest possible map (a checkerboard), 37 and co, fartzilla, etc etc.

RvW, just because it has been requested time and again without response, does not mean it is not on his to-do list..
this game is a one man show, and the forum is likely low on his to-do list..

Perrin, I thought I remembered Fizzer somehow refused to comment on this suggestion. When I went to take a look at UserVoice to show you that... well, I was proven very, very wrong... Guess what, there's indeed a UserVoice for this already; the "suggested by" data might clarify a lot:

Fizzer (WarLight Creator, WarLight) shared this idea Sep 18, 2010

However, for some reason it only has three votes. So, meta-suggestion: whenever someone complains about not being able to edit their post, share that link.
