18 groups done so far, going to bed. Each group has SEVEN DAYS to join, otherwise it starts without those players.

Shouldn't be an issue unless four people in the same group don't start.

So far we have 23 groups that are done. Only nine to go!

I'd like to announce how we're going to sort people for the second round as well. Each group will be randomly composed of people from different groups who placed 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th in the first round. Therefore your position in your group will influence who you will play in the second one.

Winning two games in this double-elimination tournament will ensure your spot in the third and final round. It should begin in about a week or so, whereas the third round will be in a month from now.

There are only three groups remaining. I'm also guessing that the second season will begin sometime in September.

ROUND 1 IS COMPLETE.

Everyone who placed 3rd-6th place in Round 1 were invited to their Round 2 group (Strategic 1v1, Medium Earth, No Luck). This was randomly assigned, as was the case in Round 1. Competitors have until JULY 4TH, 2012 to accept the invitation. Any decline or no-show will force me to re-invite everyone to a round-robin. One must win TWO games to move on to Round 3.

Everyone who placed lower than 6th are out of the tournament. Their tournament rankings will be calculated and inscribed at the bottom of the rankings sheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtOa7GN6bwsLdC11V24yWFFxWFE3cUM1dTVlSlZWenc#gid=0

Everyone who placed 1st or 2nd will receive an invite to Round 3 after Round 2 is complete, which should be in late-July or early-August.

Hey, I just want to say a massive thanks to ericleb010 for putting on this tournament, I know it must've been a lot of work organising it all but as far as I can see you've done a great job so far. I never competed in 1v1s prior to this, I would always decline them, but the concept of a massive tourney like this made me want to get in on it, and I'm glad to say that I actually feel like I'm a better player than I used to think I was, and I've been joining loads more 1v1 tournaments since. Also, I qualified for the final 128 which I never thought I'd do and I'm really pleased with that.

Thanks PROGAMER. Glad to see people understand the amount of work put into this.

ROUND 2 IS COMPLETE!

We will now proceed to the final round of the tournament! Everyone still in the tournament ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtOa7GN6bwsLdC11V24yWFFxWFE3cUM1dTVlSlZWenc&pli=1#gid=0 ) will be invited to the tournament and it will not start until everyone accepts! Any declines will have to be swapped out with bogus account which will surrender the game immediately.

I'd expect this round to begin in about a month. The template for the tournament is still being sorted out, and any suggestions can be proposed here.

something is very wrong with the template setting matches with so many open seats.. i would say it is essential to restart the whole final round in this case.. sorry, but if you play first game with an open seat, and the second one with open seat, or open seat (depending which open seat wins sic!) then its a bit unfair for those who have to stand up and fight actual players all the way up...

Not really. They're playing someone who didn't show up and theoretically receive a bye to the next match.

Besides, I'm not willing to change the way the final round is played for three reasons:

  • Starting over means we have to wait for the 90 players left in the tournament, which could take another three weeks.
  • Starting over also means we may lose other players, those that don't bother joining again. And going by your logic, we'd have to start over AGAIN following that. And,
  • It totally messes up the rankings below 128.

So it will come down to whether or not you had the luck of the draw or not.

We're now down to the final four players!

I'd just like to make a few honourable mentions before the tournament ends:

  • In 193rd place, Czaka Z. did not make it through to the second round despite winning 50% of his games! Bummer.
  • 62nd place finishers [P] Swiffe, lawm, and ♦CPU♦ Febo {Warlighter}, who all went undefeated in the first round, could not win their first final round match-up. Opportunity missed...
  • Finishing in 28th place, Nurhachi cut it close on the first round, finishing 6th out of 9 players to just avoid being knocked out of the tournament. He then lost his only match in Round 2 but luckily managed to pass anyway. In the Round of 128 he lucked out with a bye and defeated [REGL] gotopogo to finish 28th!
  • Finishing in 16th position, BankSea also nearly missed his tough first round cut, but came back in the second round with a win to play in the final round. There, he defeated three opponents before falling to ps, currently aiming for 1st or 2nd!
  • Got to mention Tacticus, who in Round 1 just missed out on a bye to the finals by placing third. Instead, he lost his only game in Round 2 but still made it through with a bye, and ended up winning four of his matches in the final round to score 8th place!
