Keeping it members only often helps, along with other prerequisites.

My standards are:

Max Boot Percentage: 7-15%, depending on time of day
Win Percentage in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 at 35%
# of Days: Min 5
# Completed: 50 games Min

I think your 50% win rate is kinda high, and unnecessarily weeds out too many people. If you think of the population as a standard normal distribution, then you're at the top of the bell curve, eliminating 50% of the people from even joining your games.

From my experience, putting it down to 35% eliminates only about 10-15% of the players, and typically, those are the ones that you really don't want to be on your team anyway. Granted, this may be overinclusive, because I'm sure there's a few players out there that are really good, but just don't have the win percentage (for whatever reason, but generally, you'll get rid of anyone that respects their ratings at all at the 35% cut. A whole seperate arguement about what win percentage even means can be viewed in countless other threads.

You'll always get people you don't want joining your game as long as you have an open seat. Invite your friends, and wait for it to start otherwise.

John, markdown (the markup language used by the WL forum) uses hash marks ("#") at the beginning of a line to denote captions. That has the (often unintended) effect of turning "# of days" into the caption (and therefore, huge font size) "of days". You can use a backslash (see "6" in the quick reference below the "Post" and "Preview" buttons) to override this. The next line reads "\# Number of Days".

\# Number of Days

See, that makes markdown leave it alone.

Looks like I need to work on my 1v1's to join John's games.

I really like the whole open seats prerequisites. It was a good addition to the game. However, as it is stat-based, there are always chances that someone you don't particularly want to play with will slip through the cracks.

For example, you keep the (quite strict, IMO) prerequisite of 50% W/L ratio. Cool, you should have some pretty good players involved in that. However, what about the player who joined a week ago? Hell, 37 had a 100% W/L ratio, and look how good he was!

I try to stick to: 50 games minimum, 30% W/L, and (most importantly, to me) boots under 15%. I don't want to be too strict, because I think new players deserve a shot, but I really hate playing people who think abandoning the game is a preferable option to surrender.

Going a bit off topic here, what do you guys think about 15% luck in games? I cannot stand 75% luck, so all of my games have 15%. However, I think I should start putting this in the game description, because I often have to tell my teammates "hey, you can kill a neutral with 4, no need to attack with 5-6".

I play with 16% luck in all the games I create, and I put it in the title. Have the link to the wiki page on luck ready, I've had to explain what luck is so many times. And to people with 700+ games too.

My minimum for 3vs3 games is minimum 500 ranked games completed and a min 50% win ration in 1vs1, 2vs2 and 3vs3 games with an 8% boot rate cutoff.

My stats are not what i wish they would be. The most frequent players that I play in 1v1 all are or would be represented in the top of 1v1 ranked players or would be. My 3v3 stats are a bit lower, but all i play are 50% and I don't worry about joining the other team either.

While my stats are not as high as they could be, my experience in 3v3 makes me realize that I would be extremely hesitant to play lower. If someone asks to be invited to one of my games I don't mind doing so. To be honest there are a lot of players that enter the games that I create and i wonder "how are their stats x". I still love when a player enters a 4 pick game and will only pick 5 picks :) or decides to pick turkey #1 in Europe play.

Its difficult making a prereq for open seats. I find few players actually challenge themselves and most players cary widely bloated stats.

So for me its 50% for 3v3 play and at times I will still play 1v1 auto games. I still find plenty of just plain terrible 3v3 players with over 1000 games in this setting. Lets hope that I am not one of them :).

Fair enough. If I was creating open-seat MD games, there would be no problem with higher standards. However, I generally create 2 types of games: MD with my friends (and thus no need for open seat standards) or open-seat RT games on Europe or E Asia (when I just feel like wasting a bit of time). I don't make the standards for those games too high, as it can sometimes be difficult to get players into seats fast enough. This is probably due to being on an esentially opposite schedule (I am typing this at 10am on Saturday, it is 9pm CST on Friday night)from most of the players on WL.

Texas John. I've never seen you surfing the open games. I imagine you more or less Play games with friends or I simply don't make your cuts :(. I am trying to get Into Asia play.

I drink more than I should and never sleep well. But in my experience you csn always get a 3v3 going with cuts. But I feel bad for the kid who has 40 and is legit but doesn't make my cut.

Boston, I don't create many open games, as I am quite busy with work. It is more of a thing I do when I am bored at home (ie the missus is out shopping or taking a nap), so it is rarely more than 1-2 on a good day. The majority of my games are against my small group of friends, as I much prefer to be able to talk trash over a beer or five with my opponents.

I rarely play other open games (ones created by non-members) as they are stuck at 75% luck, which drives me nuts. Feel free to invite me to any multi-day team games on E Asia (NOT E Asia & Oceana!!!), as it's one of my favorite maps. I also highly suggest the Battle Islands series, especially III, IV. The newest map in the series, Battle Islands V, is also really fun for 1v1.

I almost always use 16% luck in games I create...

10% boot rate and 50-100 games completed are my primary pre-req's... although I haven't played an open game in ages, I have started quite a few open games and watched the results..
