When you transfer by percentage,

do you calculate the number of units moved as a percentage of the total in the territory (including the 1 that cannot be moved) or as a percentage of the number that could potentially be moved?

Is the calculation made based on the number of units in the territory at the start of the turn or after the preceding attacks have been resolved?

Is the result 'straight rounded'?

I couldn't find the answers to any of these on the wiki, thanks.

1. You do not include the 1 that can`t be moved. But all who can be moved.
2. It`s calculated when the order executes (eg. after other ataccs/transf).
3. afaik the result is straight rounded.

On a similar note, another question. If you transfer by percentage, and the order ends up transferring 0 armies, does that count as a "dummy move"? Or does it just skip over the order?

I can confirm what Hennns says: it's calculated as a percentage of the armies which could move. However, I want to make a small note regarding to rounding. Just tested this:

  • 50% of 1 is 0
  • 51% of 1 is 1
  • 50% of 3 is 1

So it's a straight round, rounding down on a perfect half (I tested the 50% of 3 to test for Banker's Rounding: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rounding#Round_half_to_even

It's a general rule of WarLight that an order moving zero armies (for whatever reason) does not take up a "slot". This is necessary to prevent people from stalling (a poor man's Order Delay) without actually using armies to do so. That rule also applies here.

I use it almost exclusively when I blockade a terrain that might or might not be attacked, but I dont want to sacrifice all troops in that terrain for the blockade.

Attack by Percentage is extremely valuable in counterattack situations. Keep in mind its as of when its executed.

So, if you load up one territory that is bordering 4 other territories, a good way to attack is:

1) Do all of your other moves, to include playing an order delay card.
2) Then, attack by percentage into territory 1 with 25%,
3) Then, 2 by 33%, 3 by 50% and just do a final attack with everything into the last territory.
