Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, controversy. Booting seems to be a subject that sparks tension (if you use the option). The direct boot is there for a reason. Why put it there as an option and get annoyed if someone chooses it. Direct should be the same as auto if you don't want it used, unless it's a fast game.
@Incaman. That analogy is totally out of proportion to fit with this argument. A pretty bad one too, I'd say. Guns are allowed under the justification that they be used to protect people. boots are too keep games quick. Deadly weapons and speedy internet games. This guy's onto something! nah. Load of crap. You should take your own advice once in a while.
@pedrito. I know what is generally deemed acceptable. It doesn't sit right with me. You should have the choice without getting such a bad reception. I'm saying that you shouldn't be expected to wait past the allotted time. I'm saying that, if you expect people to wait until a certain time and will get angry if they breach this 'honour code' just set the bloody auto and direct to that time.
you don't get bad rep by booting imo, I agree with you there's no problem in booting raight after the timer goes out (though people, me included, rearly if ever do). My advice is just do what you want, Think like an american (Freedom)
I don't think it is that big of a deal to boot in 1v1 games (I don't think it is nice and only boot if opponent has high boot rate.) but in team games I would never boot.
well well well a subject close to my heart lol,,, boot option Is there if you wish to use it .. I do cos I dnt like waiting for players if they cnt play in the set time then boot boot boot why should they get longer then any other player....... it adds more of a challenge thus most if not all of my games are 2 mins or less you cnt commit then get BOOTED
If you don't want a bad reputation as a booter don't do it. It makes sense to boot as soon as the timer is up if
a. a person has surrender and others have not accepted his/her surrender and is clearly gone
b. A person has clearly left the game and is not returning
c. If it is posted in the description box to adhere to the timer or risk book.
Other wise people who boot frequently seem desperate for a win and are not capable of winning based off of their skill alone. I tend to avoid boot happy players as they are typically unskilled. Not to mention it can ruin an otherwise fun match. I accept that life can cause delays in a match and players will occasionally be unable to commit their orders within the given time frame. Now I will warn people that repeatedly go over the timer that I will immediately boot them especially if they are clearly trying to stall.
People who use the boot tactic as a form of winning the game are imho not worth the time to play with again and I will immediately blacklist them.
I think in most games auto-boot is the best way to go. But when the games are direct-boot I tend to give a general warning before booting. I tend to be more lenient in 1v1 games though because I believe that my opponent should have a fair opportunity to retunr to the game. I found out some people in warlight have a bad connection and cannot reach the game in time or they are in a tense situation in another game.
