I think i'm going to start making maps shortly. does anyone have any suggestions or requests for small, quite simple maps? it would probably be better for me to do an easy one the first time, i'll be less likely to give up.

i'll start looking around for some if no one replies, but i thought it would be good to ask on here for one first.

i would be grateful if there was a small map on Hong Kong. There's one already, but that's one big.

thanks :)

X, I am sure you won't have any trouble but let me know if I can give any assistance/advice\

As for map ideas, I got nothing or else I would have made more.

Forget about HK. Try a map of Shenzhen. Superbonuses for shopping malls, with small bonuses for the Gucci, Prada, LV, and Coach stores.

In all seriousness, I do agree with Nike that I would like more Chinese maps. And yes, Nike, HK IS part of China.

thanks everyone, i'll look up both soon. it would also be helpful if you gave an image or a link to the image of whatever map you have in mind.

a shopping center would actually be pretty good, if you could find a decent map, and a way to divide up the areas between shops. otherwise it might end up like that school map with two giant corridor choke points. you could have meta-bonuses for all food, all sports shops, etc.

If you're still looking for ideas, what about Cambodia, Laos, or Vietnam? The Philippines map had less than 100 territories. That seems like a reasonable amount for a first map.

Just for starters....

Cambodia Link- http://www.vidiani.com/maps/maps_of_asia/maps_of_cambodia/cambodia_provinces_detailed_map.jpg

Laos Link- http://ephotopix.com/image/asia/laos_province_map.gif

Vietnam Link- http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f0/VietnameseProvincesMap.png

Just add a few more territories and that's a map I'd play on.

they look pretty good for a beginner

you could also make them into a much larger map by splitting each place (y) into 4, making north y, south y etc.

keep 'em coming, it's likely that i'll make more than one of these small maps.

i'd like to see more UK real-life maps.

What about one of school districts of a local city or county?

I don't see the appeal for such small-scale maps. The only people who would want to play a school-district map would be those who live there or nearby.

May I suggest Ireland? You wanted a UK map, right? It's all I could think of since they already have a "British Isles" map.

Here's a link.

There's two maps of Ireland out there already. So no real need for another one. Wales has also been covered once. There's no map of Scotland or England yet though. But those are probably unsuited to make your first steps...
You could try an Isle of Man map! ;)

(looks kinda boring though)

A scotland one could be good.

i would really like to avoid "indistinct blob" kind of maps, although that isle of man one looks good for mastering the basics. it would be easy to trace, has distinct territories and bonuses, and the possibility of metabonuses and port-to-port territory links.

laos looks ok, 'nam could be pretty good if i incorporate the gulf into things, otherwise it would be too narrow. every territory a choke point.

you said you were joking about shenzhen, but i looked it up anyway. it looks feasible, but i really can't get a handle on it. i'd need someone to be a sort of art director if i were to make a map of it.

i'll certainly do a small version of the hong kong map. i'll try and figure out what to do with it. were you thinking of having about half as many territories?

X,

Instead of trying to trace the map I recommend attempting to locate an existing svg format map. Makes life SO much easier. Even if it needs to be broken down more it is still far preferable to pure tracing. Will look better and take less time/effort.

Is there one of US congressional districts? You could have a House of Representatives war.

that's a good idea, chris. i had thought about doing that before. if only it was possible to have a gerrymandering feature on warlight, that way whoever had the most territories could redraw the borders during the game.
