Look to this game : http://WarLight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=2927279

For Austria : Gibs pick it N°2, Dinca pik it N°3 and I∂ƒ∂oggY pick N°4.

In that game, HHH got his pick 1st, so he gets his '1'. Then you get your '1' and '2' as they were not taken already. Then HHH gets his '2', and needs one more. '3' is taken, '4' is taken, so he gets his '2' and his '5'.

And so it's always the player who is 1st in the player menu who have the 1st pick ? I mean if we take the same pick 1.

No, it's not. It's random.

weird that there isnt a wiki entry explaining the territory pick algo.
atleast i was just looking for it now and couldn't find it.

from my understanding of it:

the algo goes through everyone, in a random order, and tries to place everyones 1st choice in their territory.

the ones who dont get their pick deployed (because someone else was already deployed there due to the random order thing) go through another iteration (again in a random order) to try and get their second pick deployed. this keeps going until everyone has 1 territory deployed.

once everyone has 1 territory deployed the algo moves on to try and deploy everyones 2nd territory, it tries to assign their next in line pick, so if you already exhausted 4 picks on the first round, the algo will first try to place your 5th pick at the start of round 2.

if you exhaust your buffer of picks you'll start getting randomly dropped anywhere that is still available in the map.

so this is why you should always:
a) place enough picks to make sure you don't get randomly thrown around the map in horrible starting places.
b) give priority on your list to the good placings.
c) dont bother placing your 2nd and 3rd pick on a territory your teammate placed as 1st. you will never get it and it'll be lowering your chances of getting your next picks ahead of your enemies.

sometimes its also useful to place your backup picks in territories where you'll be ready to surprise invade your enemy in case they got their picks ahead of you.

No, that is not how it works! (I'll agree many people seem to think it works that way though...)

  • The algorithm goes through each player in standard turn order.
Assigning the second (and third, ...) territory is not done in random order!
This is important for team games: it is not possible that the first and second player to be considered are from the same team.
When "Cyclic Turn Order" is chosen, territory selection counts as "turn 0" for the cycle.
  • When it is a player's turn, they receive their highest-ranked pick which is still available.
  • If you run out of picks, you'll receive a territory randomly.
Another way to look at this is to say all territories you have not explicitly chosen are added to your list of picks in random order.

c) dont bother placing your 2nd and 3rd pick on a territory your teammate placed as 1st. you will never get it and it'll be lowering your chances of getting your next picks ahead of your enemies.

I agree with the "you'll never get it" part, but I don't think the "it'll be lowering your chances of getting your next picks" part is true; when it's your turn to receive a territory, those will simply be skipped over, not really influencing anything at all...

RvW, I disagree on one aspect.

It most certainly is possible to get a territory with your 2nd or 3rd choice that a teammate has 1st. All that would require is for you to come before your teammate in the selection queue and for your 1st selection to have been taken.

I would say it is unwise to do this but it is certainly possible for you to be awarded the territory despite the lower ranking of your teammate.

Pick orders in 1v1:
ABBAABBA

Pick orders in 4-player FFA:
ABCDDCBAABCDDCBA

Pick orders in 3v3:
A1 B1 B2 A2 A3 B3 B3 A3 A2 B2 B1 A1

In all instances, the players/teams are randomly selected and assigned a letter. In team games, the players on that team are then assigned a number. All players are then given their highest available selection regardless of other claims on that territory.

Thus it is possible for player A3 to get his 5th selection despite it being the first choice of player B3.

Player and team attack/transfer orders are determined by the same methodology in the standard random order game.
