We have a ranked multi-day game that a guy made the open game and has not showed since everyone joined. Unfortunately it is a 3 v 3, so it would destroy the game play to boot him. I have PM'd him asking where he is and he has been nudged too.

Any reason not to boot?

Also, would you play it out take a cheap win (in theory) or vote to end?

I'd boot him and VTE.

Is the autoboot time coming up soon? I generally wait for auto if I can, to avoid anyone accusing me of being boot happy. But yeah, I agree with the above. Boot and VTE. Sure, you don't get to play a fun game of Warlight, but at least nobody has to lose because of bullshit.

That early on there is no good justification for playing it out and getting the cheap win.

Think about how you would feel if the opposition booted your AWOL teammate and then forced you to play it out?

I voted to end and so did one of my teammates. Another did not, which is why I was curious. Wasn't sure whether I should question him on that or not.

Actually one person on the other team has submitted orders and not voted. Odd, but if he wants to play it out we will.

Thanks

I always strongly urge my teammates to VTE in these sort of situations.

Had a game last night, 2v2 Europe, where one opponent took 6 minutes to play and was booted by his teammate, who then continued to play. In those situations, what should I do? In hindsight, I should have suggested a VTE, but then again, I wasn't the one who booted someone well before the auto time.

Early in a team game, vote to end the moment someone gets booted (and yes, when someone is nudged, PM'ed and still doesn't play until after the time to boot has come, you have all justification to boot). If the game is decided and someone on the losing team gets booted, play on. If the game is decided and someone on the winning team gets booted, assess whether the winning team can still win. If yes, play on. If no, ask them politely to surrender or otherwise vote to end. Remember that these aren't rules, merely choices to live by. You can blacklist if someone plays completely differently.

Ideally, Boot and Vote to End is the ideal situation if its early. Another consideration is wether or not an AI is present, but there are very few actual players that I would rather have the AI play for.

However, don't forget about yur Vote to End if it goes on for many more turns.

My theory is that the Vote should happen early. It becomes less fair to everyone the more time you invest in the game. If the other players go 2-3 turns with my Vote in, I generally state: "Withdrawing my Vote to End Next Turn" to give everyone one last chance to vote before I will see it to the end.

Keeping your vote in will come back to bite you when the holdout either surrenders or gets eliminated towards the end of the game. With that person gone, the logic is then satisfied that the game will be voted to an end, and despite them being beaten, noone gets a win for a game that was played.
