Well i finally finished my first map. This is the smaller version and still working on a larger one. I tested the connections and center points so they should be fine. It has a lot of choke points and i'm considering adding mountain passes. The large bonuses need more adjustment and when that's finished it will be ready for testing. Here's a link for anyone interested in a preview.

If you have any suggestions they're always welcome.

Out of curiosity, and slightly off subject, how do you align the borders so they don't overlap each other, but don't leave gaps revealing the background. Is there a trick to it? Or do you have to zoom right in and move each node manually?

I've tried making maps before and I use the division tool to divide up large areas into territories, but this leaves borders overlapping.

You should first draw the bonuses, and use the division tool for that. For the borders between bonuses, there is no trick, you'll have to do it manually. It can help to make the borders transparent and in different colors.

I'm drawing my maps in illustrator so if u'r using inkscape can't help u much because i'm not familiar with the options. Although the basic controls should be the same only under different name so:

As Moros said above u first cutout the bonuses then i'm using offseth path before i cut the small territories that make the bonus. What this does is it moves the path (borders) just back so they are just right (may need some tweaking). Then u cutout the smaller territories. I'm sure if u search the net u could find tutorials for how to do this in inkscape (maybe try "offset path in inkscape" or something similar). Just remember to save a new file after every step in case u need to go back.

Cheers and stay well :))

Saving a new file after every step? I've never done that, and I think it will clog up your computer very fast.

It kidda does not that u've mentioned it, guess we're a very smart nation :))

Well there are only 5-6 steps 1.draw the outline 2.divide the bonuses 3. offset the paths 4. divide the territories 5.final touches and they are vector files so shouldn't take too much space, vector files never do (unless u'r doing something wrong :)))

Oooh, I thought you meant every action. So a new file after every division, new territory, adjustment, and so on. That would raise into the thousands in my two largest maps.
