Hi guys, i am sorry i have not cared too much for the nations cup for the past two weeks, but i thought it was clear to everyone. You all have the lists of the teams and captains in many threads and the rules are also clear.
I also wont continue organizing/spending time tooking care of all this things since in the end feels like there is not much gain really. I started studying and work and so i will keep only playing. (i stoped LIVE tournaments for instance).
All tournaments can continue just by the players realizing the rules and where to post results (in all tournaments the thread/settings are clear about what to do).

Moving on
About the NATIONS CUP

At this point is easiest to ask one question to all teams:

Do your team want to keep playing the Nations Cup and advance to the next round?

If by any chance you want to play but didnt posted your line-up or talked to the others teams captain/lineup to create the games, I would ask why the hell you didnt?

All teams have until the end of august 10th to post if you want to be in or not. (if your posted your line up for the 3rd round in group stage you dont need to).

I thing we may be very close to 16 teams already, since so much teams seem to be missing.

One more thing
The 7v7 is not cool and time manageable i guess, lets make it 5v5, 4v4 or remove it completely?
Lets just have manageable teams for the next rounds?

And since I did so much effort to improving the community in my view i will give you all 3 more gifts. Will prepare them for tonight/tomorrow.

Hey Dunga, do you mind if I try to take over your WPA idea? I thought it was great and it would be a shame to see it die out.

it not died out, the tournaments are ongoing. And yes, we can use your tournament in the WPA (i saw that you posted in the thread just now that you mentioned it).

Open a game so we talk how things needs to go to take care of the rankings.

US East 1 is staying in, we haven't posted a line-up for round 3 because
1) Out leader has been very busy and we hadn't settled on a line-up until today
2) Israel (our opponents) have not posted a line-up either

New Zealand has not posted a line-up for round 2, so we couldn't create any games for that round. I doubt they're still in this.

Will post a line 3 line-up hopefully tomorrow.

7v7 should be played on a smaller map, it will be faster to finish.

Instead of 7v7, maybe keep the same map but switch to 5v5 with 4 starts each. The number of starts will be almost the same (21 vs. 20) so the game won't "feel" too different but hopefully it should be easier for teams to find five players who won't get booted, and maybe the games will go a tiny bit faster as well. The disadvantage is that for teams like mine where we have 11 active players picking who gets to play the games becomes even more difficult...
I suppose later in the elimination rounds we could leave the choice between 5v5 and 7v7 up to the teams - if both teams have enough players for the 7v7 they could opt for that instead.

Actually, the more player who get booted, the faster the game proceeds. ;)

If the biggest game is 5v5, 11 players could form two teams. If I remember the first thread(s) correctly, there were quite a bunch of teams having trouble finding seven players, so this might actually be an advantage.

Right. I guess my team, Netherlands/Flanders 1 is still in, as we're still actively playing in this cup. We have lost our captain, Veelvraat, so he won't be returning for the elimination rounds.

We're still finishing up the 7v7 game for the second round. The 5v5 for the third round still hasn't begun yet as our opponents, USA East 2, cannot get enough people rounded up to play. One of our 3v3 ended in a vote-to-end when Veelvraat got booted. I have no idea what happened to his 2v2 and 1v1 games. I'd have to ask Oliebol but I assume he was also booted from those.

I'm not sure where we go from here. A few people in my team want to quit WL, but I'd expect we can still finish the nations cup, even if it is with only a team of 4 or 5.

Just so you know.

NL/Flanders 2 is currently at the bottom of our group; there is a realistic chance we'll be eliminated. If it turns out that indeed happens, you could ask if some of our players want to join your team to bring you back to full strength?

@RvW: That might just be a good idea. We could certainly use the extra backup. If you don't mind, could you check amongst your team who's interested in switching to ours for the elimination rounds?

I'm working on getting our games finished. With no one else stepping up, I guess I'm acting for the captain from this point on, at least until Veelvraat returns (if ever, since he's currently on a timeout indefinetely).

Let me update the situation in each of the groups, based on the results I've been tracking on http://warlite.wikia.com/wiki/Nations_Cup_2012:

Norway and Baltic States have clinched playoff berths in Group A. Norway has also clinched first place in the group. Poland 2 and Netherlands & Flanders 2 are duking it out for the final qualification spot.

Both groups B and C had two teams withdraw, so Canada, Brazil, Serbia and USA Central 1 all qualify for the round of 16. Serbia is due to play USA West.

In group D France 2 will finish third but doesn't have enough points to challenge for the best third-placed team of groups D through G, so they are out. Italy and Britain & Ireland 1 have qualified and are fighting for first place.

Similarly in group E, Britain and Ireland 2 is out of the tournament while USA East 2 and Netherlands & Flanders 1 will both qualify, but the match between those two teams has been marred by a rash of forfeits and incomplete lineups. If the games aren't being replayed I WILL AWARD USA EAST 2 AN 8-5 WIN, since Veelvraat and Oliebol were booted from their 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 games but USA East 2 lost the other 3v3 and did not have a full lineup for the 5v5.

Almost all the games in group F have finished (wow!) and the final standings are set: Germany will be first, USA West will finish second, and France 1 is currently the best third-placed team from groups D through G with seven points, with only USA Central 2 able to catch them.

USA East 1 and Israel have clinched playoff spots in group G and are currently playing their match to decide first place. My understanding is that the 3v3 and 5v5 games are being replayed but I NEED LINKS TO THOSE GAMES! USA Central 2 can overtake France 1 and qualify at least as the best third-placed team if they beat Israel in their last remaining game, the 7v7.

WE WILL FORCE AN END TO ALL GROUP STAGE GAMES BY SEPTEMBER 30, 11:59 PM PDT (October 1, 6:59 am in GMT). A playoff bracket has been set up at http://warlite.wikia.com/wiki/Nations_Cup_2012#Elimination_Stage and those matches can start as soon as both qualifiers are known. As captain of USA West I am currently contacting Serbia about getting our match started.

Here's the tiebreak procedure for the group standings. If two or more teams are equal on points upon completion of the group matches, the following criteria will be applied to determine the rankings:
1. Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
2. Fewer number of players booted from games in progress plus players forfeited for failing to join games;
3. Higher number of points obtained in all 5v5 and 7v7 games;
4. Higher number of points obtained in all 3v3 games;
5. Higher number of points obtained in all 2v2 games;
6. Higher number of points obtained in all 1v1 games;
7. Drawing of lots.

And here's how games that haven't finished by September 30 will be adjudicated, based on the proposal at http://warlight.net/Forum/Thread.aspx?ThreadID=4083&Offset=20 and modifications proposed later in that thread:

1. For each of the last eight turns, find the slowest player on each team for that turn. Do this also for the current turn which hasn't been played yet: any player that hasn't moved is automatically the slowest player on the team and is assigned the time elapsed since the last turn was made.

2. On each turn, compare the times those two players took to move. No penalty is applied that turn if they both moved within 24 hours. If the slower player (A) used more than 24 hours while the faster player (B) used less than 24 hours, player A's team is penalized for every hour after 24 hours that player A took to move. If both players used more than 24 hours then player A's team is penalized for every hour he took after player B moved.

3. Add up the penalties for both teams over the last eight turns plus the current unplayed turn, and take the difference to get the total penalty in hours (P) for the slower team.

4. If P > 48 hours then that team's adjudicated score = (1 - (P - 48) / 640) * (income * 2 + number of total armies). For the faster team no penalty is applied and their score = income * 2 + number of total armies. If P < 48 hours then no penalty is applied to either team - the second formula is used for both teams.

The above rules have also been posted at http://warlite.wikia.com/wiki/Nations_Cup_2012 underneath the group standings.
