So I looked up to see how to make an e with an accent on it. It is ALT+0233 but it doesn't work on my laptop! In fact, none of the accents work! Is there another way to make them other than copy/paste?

It is probably that those 0233 are supposed to be typed on numpad and that is missing on most laptops. I'v tried on my and it worked. Numpad is simulated there with function key (in my case on Dell blue Fn key).

Or you can just add language/keyboard which has that accent you need.

If you have a numberpad on your laptop keyboard make sure number lock is ON.

Do you mean you want this one: é?

Press ' and then press the E key. Why would you use an alt code for something that is on your keyboard and can be done within a few movements.
The key you need for this is the same key you use to get ë (using shift on the same key)

ñ?

If you have a qwerty-keyboard it should be shift+ the key on the left of 1. Then you press the "n". Doesn`t work for an E though

Num. Lock - on.
Alt + 0241
on my compootah, at least.

I remeber being in a fizzle about this bloody tilde. So troublesome. A name-change to Señor ... someting I forget... was out of the question!

I've always had to use Ctrl to get the accented characters.

ñ = Ctrl + Shift + ` (the key to the left of the 1), release all those, type n.
é = Ctrl + ', release those, type e.
è = Ctrl + ` (key to left of 1), release, type e.
etc. -- basically Ctrl + whatever accent you want, then the letter you want it on.

Those don't always work, though, esp in forums -- this one doesn't seem to support it, for example -- but it was a lot easier for me when writing papers in another language to use the method above than to try to remember alt codes for all the accented characters.

So I've tried the things you described, but (none of them work) I guess I need a number pad then. :/

I appreciate the help though! Thanks.

é - AltGr + e
í - AltGr + i
ó - AltGr + o
ú - AltGr + u

These all should work with a 'standard' English qwerty keyboard. They should also work in forums etc.
