I'm not sure Troy has been definitively located - but archaeologists do have a preferred theory which is on the Hellespont.

@ KGB138 You mean Macedonia?

I know that not the biggest and most famous empire but the Hungarian Principality and after the Hungarian Kingdom was an empire as well wich unite the nations of carpathian basin for a thousand year.

Interesting fact that Hungary was invaded by the Mongol Empire from east and this was the westernmost point of their expansion, invaded by the Ottoman Empire from south and this was the northernmost point of their expansion, invaded by the Habsburg Empire from west and this was the easternmost point of their expansion, and invaded by the Soviet Empire from east and this was the westernmost point of their expansion.

Hungary like a wall was the endpoint of expansive empires :)

I post some links for those interested in Troy location debate and the theory I was talking about.I think it's a fascinating one, although it remains to be proven.

As for Persians.. ??? A territory about 1/7 their size (Greece) ended up being their downfall...not sure how good the Persians were on their part...they fought miserably.

Oh, well at least through their mistake, Greece built their biggest empire afterwards...

That was at the end of one dynasty of persian empires, they were weakening. They did overrun most of greece though, they captured athens. But they lost in a naval battle.

And no you are wrong Macedonia (Alexander) invaded persia. And that was after all the persian money and troops were dwindled. And Alexander was a great general.

@Mushimushi:

Let's try being honest about it; I clicked those links intending to read two or three paragraph, spot the insanely huge errors and come back here to yell at you for having missed them.

So, here I am, over an hour later, having read the whole entire thing... and being quite unsure what to tell you. He makes a few assumptions and connections here and there which are a bit of a stretch, but if I cut out everything which sounds too far fetched to me, I'm still left with a rather convincing argument. More importantly, I didn't find (even though I was very much looking for it) a single thing in there which is obviously and blatantly false and tears the whole thing down when you remove it.

Am I ready to accept it as "true"? No, not quite; I'm incapable of doing enough verification of his claims on my own. Do I have the faintest idea where to start debunking this? No, not at all. Did you very much capture my attention? Yes, you sure did!

@Ska- I know its technically called "Macedonia", but it really was Alexander's Empire. It was his LEGACY

Well it was probably more Phillip's legacy than Alexander's seeing as Phillip laid all the groundwork of building up the Macedonian military machine to what it was and raising the finances to support such a huge endevour and raising Macedonia to the point of being the eminent power in Greece before Alexander inherited the throne.

Not to say Alexander wasn't a great general but Phillip's contributions to his sons success are too often overlooked.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Inca`s and Maya`s were pretty cool. They had some awesome thing. Egypte and Rome are also pretty awesome. But I like most of the old civilizations.

@RvW:

That's exactly what I felt after reading the book!

I was so intrigued that I wanted to find someone to talk to about it.
I'm glad I caught your attention, it's a really fascinating theory for the many implications that would have for the entire history of mankind, if proven.

My critical faculties stops in front of the truthfulness of many facts that make it all convincing when related to each other (I can easily dismount the assumptions that identify the places according to the similarities of the names and few others, but for the rest...I need to read again the Iliad and the Odyssey, and perhaps Plutarch's writings but it's a bit too much for me!).

Maybe someone else in this Forum can debunk it and bring me to my peaceful beliefs?
