Make sure you've clicked this link: http://warlight.net/EnableMapDevelopment.aspx
Assuming you have, you'll have a Design Maps subtab under the Multi Player main tab.

Thanks.

Also, when ever I right click a territory, it doesn't give me the option to "fill and stroke"...

Er, it's at the top of the fourth section after you've right clicked, right below Delete and right above Object Properties, if that's what you're asking for.

Okay I've figured it out, I had made a silly mistake. Anyways, could you explain what an SVG is and how it would look? Cause it says my "SVG" is not working and that it's probably a bug I need to email Fizzer about?

Seems like you've got a lot of info you still need to cover. I could walk you through all of it, but I'd recommend reading over the Warlight wiki pages on this topic first. See this link: http://wiki.warlight.net/index.php/Map_Making

But to give you a bit of a start, an SVG is a Scalable Vector Graphics file. In short, it's a way of making a picture out of lines, both curved and straight. One reason that's useful is so one can zoom in without losing any picture quality.

The reasons it might not be working could be due to any number of things. Again, I'd read over the Map Making wiki for this. Perhaps the error also gave a short description of what caused the problem as well? But anyways, I'll leave you to read the wiki. Best of luck!

I'm also making my first map as well, I'll leave you here the information my clanmates gave me. The way to create an SVG file is to make it with Inkscape, the download is free and from the official webpage...

6th Army Group told me this:

Ok, so you are making a map. First you need to find a base map for the template.

1)Right click the picture, copy the map.

2)You must decide how detailed you want the map to be. How many territories do you want, for example, in Poland? How many should the map have total? Using this, you should decide how big you want the map to be.

Standard maps are 1000 px by about 1000 px. You can go up to 3300X 24000 px, but that is generally for HUGE maps like Issander's Huge World. Depending on how detailed you want the map, set a pixel size.

To set the overall size of the map, press 'Shift Control D' and set the size.

3)Then copy and paste your picture onto the document. Right click on the image. Click 'Image Properties' If you're using the image I showed you, then do this
a)Set the width to how much you need to fill up or almost fill up the entire canvas.
b)Using a calculator, multiply the width you just set by .8638105991112277(length=.8638105991112277 x width)
c)Insert the product of this equation into your picture's length.
4)Save.

Now you have your basic template set up. Any issues?

5) This begins the next process. Click on the image again. Look at the top panel that begins with 'File' and goes on to end with 'Help.' But don't click these, click the word "Object" in the panel. In the drop down menu, click the words 'Fill and Stroke...' right under the word "Object." A menu will appear in the right side of your screen.

Look at the bottom of the menu. See where it says 'Opacity, %' Set the opacity to 50 %.

6) Now here is the fun part or the annoying part. It's the part you actually think about when making a map, that is tracing. Look at the left hand panel of Inkscape. See the pen icon right below the pencil icon? Click that, and then click on the map where you want to start drawing.

This part is very important. It takes a bit of research to know actual territories and regions of countries. You will think about the territory you are going to draw, then you will draw it.

7) Back to drawing territories- to draw a territory here is what you do;
1)Click on the "pen" icon in the left hand side of Inkscape panel.
2)Click around the desired territory
a)Tip: the more clicks you make per territory, the less sloppy territories look
3)Once the territory is complete ( you have enclosed the territory so there is no open space ), right click on the line making up the territory. Click Object Properties. Change the ID to "Territory_1" . The next territory you make, make it "Terrtitory_2" and so on. You can set the Title to help you remember the names of territories like Murcia, Castile La Mancha, and so on.
4)If your territory is very detailed, simplify it by clicking 'Control L' to compress the territory file size, but not lose its qualities.

More detailed 7:
1. Pen or pencil tool is fine. Pencil tool if you want more detail, but increase the smoothness. I normally have 30. Pen tool is normally used if you want quantity over quality.

2. Before you draw territories, create border lines. So first draw out all the border lines, Ie bonuses. There's many ways you can make clean borders:

Simple way: Divide up all the map into bonuses, then select all bonuses divided up. Go to path >>Inset or Ctrl,Alt,9.

Harder way: Draw a bonus line. Select it and press Ctrl,Alt,C. After this select both the line and the rest of the un-divided map. You then press Ctrl, -. Without clicking off it press Ctrl, Shift, K.

Simple ID naming. Copy Territory_ click on every territory ID and paste this over path. The numbers don't have to be in order. So it could be eg Territory_4487

Simplify were you can, if you need to. For bigger maps you should have simplyer lines anyway.

I'm currently editing the "World Nations" map for better gameplay, accuracy, and larger territory count where needed. I'm almost done!

I got one more question. So i've started adding all the bonuses and stuff in warlight's editor, and it turns out I forgot to raise one of my territory's layer to the top, so now it doesn't show up like I want it to. Would I have to go back and edit it and start the whole warlight editor process again?

All you have to do is update the WarLight map with all the progress you've done, it'll stay exactly the same. However, if you've changed the size or position of some territories in your SVG file, you'll have to set new centre points, but other than that everything is retained. I'm also unsure what happens if you delete territories, but I'd imagine that their data is simply removed from the WarLight editor.

I never knew you could use the pencil, thanks.

Make sure the lines arent messy. You can do this my raising the smoothness. Then/or smoother the lines, ctrl,L but that gets rid of a lot of detail sometimes, on bigger areas. You only really have to do this on big maps. Better way but more time consuming is deleting nods.

However this avoid this mostly all together, draw the map outline smooth and make sure all territory and bonus lines are smooth using the pencil or rigid using the breizer tool (pen) I think. Anyone can ask questions through messaging if you don't understand me fully.

@Garret, would it work to if I entered a bonus wrong so it's like invalid? Should I continue with everything else and then get the new version with the fix bonus name afterwards?

If you introduced a wrong name bonus, you just have to change it in the SVG, upload the new SVG, and everything else is going to be exactly like it was.
Even if you change the map, all the preovius work on Warlight editor is going to be the same. You can upload a new map every time you want, for example, I do it for bonuses. First I do just a bonus, name the territories, the bonus link, and work in connections and names in WL map editor. Then I create another bonus in inkscape, and upload the new SVG file, and all the previous work is going to cointinue as you had.

It only can have some changes if you resize the map, or you move your territories, but the only thing you should do is to set the center points again, while you don't change the Territory number in the SVG file, all is going to be kept (Connections, Warlight names, everything but the center point location).

Did you mean that?

I want to add that the connections are based on were the center point is located, so with scaling it can be a real mess with centre points and connections. My advice is to draw a 20x20 circle in inkscape. This size is the minimum size to put a 2 numbered armie in a territory. This means that this 20x20 circle has to fit in every territory. If not, you can combine the circle and the territory ;)
Your map won't be accepted when a 2 numbered armie cannot be placed in every territory

Well I'll continue doing the territory names and borders and such, then I'll see if I run into any more problems to ask.
