I was looking at US and there are some called states (Florida and Tennessee) yet they are more than just that state. Why not name them like your other territories (by a regional name)?

Florida could just be Panhandle and Tennessee could be Smoky Mountains.

Something like that.

I didn't look over the rest of the map, but I would use the same standard everywhere else. If the boundary is multiple countries, don't call it the name of a single country.

Just a suggestion, obviously nothing major. Just don't want people to think you failed geography or anything.

Other examples where the territory includes more than the named country/state:

Quebec - maybe something on St Lawrence?
Alberta - Canadian Rockies?
Panama - South Central America?
Argentina - Andes Mountains?

I am starting to think this might be too much to make worthwhile :)

You could ask Fizzer if you want to adopt the Map to make changes to it, but even if the Geography is incorrect, it wouldn't affect the map, it would just be easier to understand where the territories would be.

Chris, I know you want to be geographically correct, but I feel that it may confuse most people. It is much easier to recognize the territories by the most prominent state/country in its vicinity. Take for example, Africa. How are you going to work out that mess?

Ehh, I feel Asia is a little bit more defined. You can name the territories within Asia much easier. Africa just isn't worth the time figuring out..

Never mind, I was thinking regional; for example, in the China bonus, it includes Tibet and Bhutan, which would be a hassle in trying to figure out what to name it by....

There are much more serious problems with the names on that map that ought to be fixed first. For example, "Botswana", "Kenya", "Georgia" and "Kyrgyzstan" don't contain the countries they're named after, and for some bizarre reason the German spelling of Tajikistan ("Tadschikistan") is used.

Yeah, I realized I was pulling at a thread when I started looking around. Like I said, nothing that matters to game play.

That spelling of Tajikistan always bothered me, but I wasn't sure if it was some alternate phonetic spelling or something.

x i believe that "stan" means land in their languages. For example, Uzbekistan is the land of the uzbeks. Kazackstan is the land of the kazacks, and so on.

@Mylor
"the suffix '-stan' is Persian and Urdu for 'place of' or 'where one stands'."
-hotword.dictionary.com

The first part of the country's name refers to the ethnic group inhabiting the nation. E.g. Afghanistan means "land of the Afghans."

However, only Pakistan deviates from the meanings. Pakistan translates into "land of the pure", which does not refer to the inhabitants living there presently.

Just to elaborate on your comment.

@Burgoo King
The "stupid" ideas are only a way of becoming geographically correct. Politically, the territory "Florida" is incorrect because it covers more than just Florida. However, what Chris was SUGGESTING was only a suggestion. You could easily call Florida "panhandle" as you could rename it "Appalachian Mountains" both are closer to being Geographically correct, yet they do not cover the whole entire portion (maybe even more) of the Florida territory. Ergo, you can't really find a Geographically/ Politically correct translation of the "Florida" territory. I may be wrong about this, but since I have no access to flash (as this is my iPad I am working with) from prior experiences I think there is not just one correct Geographical landmark that covers the Florida Territory.

The Medium Earth map doesn't aim to be geographically correct, it aims to provide the best possible gameplay this game can offer. The territories are therefore named to provide the latter. They're just easier to remember.

How is Florida currently not geographically correct? how can something politcally be incorrect with respect to geography? And the appalachian mountain ranges are really really are not of any great magnitude in the south as they are in the northern and middle regions of the east cosat. The territory does not cover the appalachians if you knew anything about american geogrpahy then you'd shut up. To call it the panhandle would insinuate that georgia and northern parts of alabama are part of that. And don't tell me you cant find a politcally/geographically correct term when that wasn't even my poing from the begininng. I don't care if there is one and that's not why I posted. So please mind your own buisness, if that's "politcally" correct

Dude, calm yourself. All I'm saying is that I think you should not criticize other people's ideas whiteout trying to help them first. All you did was say the suggestions were a "stupid idea" (again now help, seeing as you did not specify) and now you attack me, telling me to shut up, when, again, you fail to try and find a geographically correct territory name for the Flordia region. And fine, if there is a name that you find suitable, THEN GO AHEAD and do the work yourself! I have no access to.the Medium Earth map, AND this was only a suggestion, I don't see how you are contributing to the idea by being idiotic and calling everyone's ideas stupid. If you have better ideas, post them, otherwise follow the rule that you should have learned a long time ago-
-"if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing."

Why do I need to find a solution when im just putting an end to the problem? and your only making the problem worse by defending it.

Please tell me, how you plan to end a problem by insulting the person? Just a thought...

Anyways, getting back on topic, If you could find names that would suit the territories,(and I am speaking to everyone), then best of luck.
