Before you get involved, I don't want to be seem as whiner, what I am going to write is all meant honestly so please take it or leave. I welcome criticism that is constructive, but please leave you personal attacks behind.

I honestly think that Membership is seriously overpriced. 30$ is load of money. When i look for example to steam store, i could have 3-4 high quality strategy games for that money. Here I get one. (And btw those games would be lifetime too). That means, if I were to spend 30$ on games, I will do it on something else because i will get more value.

This puts me off from buying wl membership. I would like it, but i am not willing to pay THAT MUCH. Reason why I write it is that I can not believe that I am only one who seems it this way. First of, i am going to introduce possible plans that i would accept.

1) 10$ single price.
Normal price for good quality game. (ofc newest high-tech games cost more, but it is usage of new technology and their freshness that makes them cost that much. Moreover, here I am buying just upgrate, not game itself)

2) 10$ single price first year, +1$ renewal every year but first
(For if Fizzer is concerned about funding running costs (servers) in future and that is why he makes price that high. I would personally prefer this plan as it seems fair to me.)

3) subscription only, 2-3$ per year
(Could more easily attract new players to buy'n'try. And in long term would yield more then all other plan, including current and yet not feel like drying me out)

I am officially COMMITTING MYSELF that I would buy membership with one of those plans. And I would like you, non-members who seem it same way, to write down which of these plans YOU would accept (or your own).

This is not meant to be revolution against Fizzer, but honest opinion. I do not see much members in games, and 50 times 10$ is more then 10 times 30$, and even more if they and gonna pay 1$ each year to cover running costs. That is why Fizzer himself should be interested in this.

Thanks

I'm on my phone an don't like making big posts on it. So I'll just make one quick observation. If Fizzer was simply out to make money from Warlight then it would be covered with adverts on every page and loading screen.

I agree with ska..

Plus what you and other guys may think is not relevant at all according to market rules...

I've seen a big grow in membership buying (I may be wrong though) so I wouldnt wonder if Fizzer make the membership price even more expensive.

It's just a demand and supply affair...

And u also have to have in attention the fact that many of the players of warlight wont buy a memebership no matter how much it costs. Fizzer wouldnt be making more money for lowering the price

WarLight is different from most games you're comparing it to because, in multi-player games, all of the "work" is done by the server.

That is, when you play a multi-player game, the server does all of the calculations for every deploy, attack, card, and AI moves. This means it costs money for every turn of every game played, as data-center grade CPU is expensive.

Most of the Steam games you're talking about do all of their work locally on your own computer. You can play it 24/7 and it never costs the developer a dime - the purchase price you paid is 100% profit for them.

I believe this is the reason you don't see more games like WarLight -- they're very expensive to run, and big game companies don't like that. Most of the games that come to mind that are server-based charge monthly subscription fees (World of Warcraft, for example. There are exceptions of course.)

The price is a funny thing, actually, since every time I hear someone say it's too high I have heard about four people say that it was an easy decision for them and that they would have paid more. Common business logic says that your price is correct when 80% of your customers think your price is too high.

Ska is correct that I didn't create WarLight with the goal of making money. However, WarLight currently isn't profitable, and at some point that's going to need to change for it to survive. I'll post more about this on the blog in the future.

It's so obvious at this moment that Warlight isn't profitable that I can't believe this was a complaint made about it. Memberships are currently the only way that Warlight gets money, so it's easy to do some basic math and realize that Fizzer does this because he wants to, not because he's going to get rich.

If 10 people buy memberships each month, that's only $300 total. Fizzer puts in a ton of time coding it, so even if that were 100% profit (it is probably a loss after expenses), then he's making far less than minimum wage from this game.

Most of the people I've heard talk about why they bought a membership, myself included, was in large part to help out Fizzer and thank him for making a great game. If you don't think a membership is worth $30 compared to the non-member options, then that's your choice. Complaining that it's too expensive is quite backwards, from a business perspective. Letting most players play the game for free (at their discretion) is quite generous of him as well.

I paid for membership for two reasons:

1. I wanted to put on custommised games and/or games with more than 6 players.

2. I recognised the value of the site to me and thus I decided I wanted to suppport it. I could have paid more. I believe it is a very fair price considering the hours of enjoyment I get from Warlight.

I dont believe that Fizzer is raking in a profit here. Instead he has created and continued to update a product that he sincerely cares about and that many of us members care about too.

Don't forget the continued improvements he has made most notably recently with the improved game sceation display which makes it more user friendly.

If you choose not to pay for a service that you use regularly then that is your choice but I don't think you have grounds to complain about the price of the lifetime membership.

Thank you Fizzer for your hard work and for keeping it free from marketing devices.

I can't buy a membership because i'm minor and i don't have a credit card, but that would apply even if it cost 1$.
I'd easily spend 3-4 times the current cost of membership to support the game (the bonuses are fun too, especially the annoying luck settings :p)
quick note to fizzer (not sure if its possible): it would be nice to be able to add open seat prerequisites to 16% luck strategic templates for non-members.

I don't have a problem with the price at all. I paid 60 bucks for Diablo 3 and I've gotten more lasting fun out of this game (for free). Here are the reasons I have not paid the $30 yet:

1) My wife puts up with me gaming, but doesn't really support it. We have a shared account and she pays the bills, so any paypal item will be spotter. If there were a way to pay with cash, I'd just stash it here or there and then send the 30 bucks. Maybe if you had a PO box or something (wouldn't want to supply your address).

2) I have family obligations and also my work sort of monitors usage. If I had a full working app for my ipad and iphone, I would buy it. Until then, I don't want to fall into the trap of buying a membership and getting in a bunch of extra games when I don't have the resources to play them.

3) Because it is an online game, there is the risk that it simply goes away (whether temporary or permanent). I'm not saying Fizzer will just up and quit, but it is not a stand alone game you'd have even if servers went away. It would probably put some minds at ease if there were some sort of refund policy if the site goes away within a year of purchasing a membership (maybe you already have that in place).

That's pretty much it. I think the game is great and totally worth the 30 bucks. I'd like to see forums expanded, etc...but that isn't a deal breaker for me, just added bonus.

All I am looking for is some additional payment options, the apple app done and some sort of guarantee and I'd drop the $30 in a heartbeat.

As far as profit goes, couldn't you beef up the forums and put adds on there? It wouldn't detract from the game because they would only be in the forums. I mentioned it there, but I am a admin on a site that is %100 paid for with google ads. They just put one at the bottom and that is it. We could all click them once a day easily.

the point 3 is a bit ridiculous, if the sdite goes away for some reason it will probably be for lack of funfs.... and after therer are no funds to run the site u want him to refund u? nice!

anyway, im in favor of soem kind of advertisement (perhaps only for non-members?)

I completly agree with changed names about the ads for only non-members. It may sound mean but I dont want Warlight to cease to exist due to a lack of funds.

How is that ridiculous? I'm just saying I wouldn't want to buy the membership and have the site close tomorrow. Then I paid 30 bucks for nothing. Not saying it would, I'm just saying that could be holding people back. If you had a monthly rate like was suggested that might ease some minds. This one won't keeping me from buying (I have faith in the site after playing a while), but it could be for some.

Chris, the reason he felt it was ridiculous was rather clear... if the site were to close down it would be due to lack of funds. How then would you expect those non-existent funds to be returned?

Either way, the year-long period is too high... a month or two would make more sense.

As many other under-age gamers here, I don't have a debit/credit card to do this, though I can easily buy it, my parents don't like me playing that much, but in future I may be able to persuade them to let me.

I would like it if Fizzer could add ads to the forum, I would definitely click 1 or more times a day, to try and help the site out.

if wl were for money it would be profitable. i can think of a number of ways to make money here. fizzer should be and deserves to be rich (based on time spent working). i'd be willing to invest in wl if i could have a say in monetizing it.
