Hello everyone, so I've decided to create a world map, but have ran into some trouble. I just started creating it, and am using a world map to trace over, but it only has the country borders. So that means I have to find a picture of the territories/states/provinces of the country I'm doing and place that over the original world map I have. Right now, I can't find a single US states map that even semi-fits the world map I'm tracing over.

Here's a picture of the world map I'm using: http://www.vectortemplates.com/raster/maps-world-map-03.png

Map in progress: http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=34062

So if any of you find a US map that has the states which fits the map I'm tracing over, please tell me!

BASICS:

You can have a map of the world and thrace the country's borders over.
And you can also have a map of ONE country and trace the administrative divsions over.

Result: if you have a map of the world and a map of a country then combine them.

Well in this situation , you have map wich isn't divided in states. Well here's one: http://www.mapresources.com/media/catalog/product/m/c/mc-eur-505416_comp_1_3.jpg

But that map doesn't solve anything. Issander had this problem to and this was the result, take a look at US states. http://warlight.net/Map?ID=6496

It is difficult to find a map that actually fits. Maps have different projections and different size.

There's actually not a good 'solution' but if you try to trace the US states or other divisons so correct as possible then it'll be beautiful.

its not very high resolution, but try this one.

EDIT: Also, the projection method that the map uses is not centered on the prime meridian, so the distortion will not be exactly the same as a world map.

Yeah I'm already using a map pretty much like that to do my best with, but it really doesn't fit so it's a little difficult.

You could divide Portugal into North and South. Also, some of the Spanish territories are misspelle (Beleares etc.)

Simplify the territories, as you might run out of space for all those territories to be like that, plus it doesn't look as good. Also give Morocco proper names, not 1, 2, 3.

I think the same as CROivan, you could separate Portugal in North and South, and "Beleares" sould be Baleares, and "Gibralter" I guess it is Gibraltar.

And even thought I prefer maps like you're doing, I think Apollo is right, if you don't simplify the borders between the regions, the svg file would probably be too big and Warlight wouldn't support it. You can try but...

Note taken, guys. And Apollo, I think it should be obvious that those aren't the official Moroccan territory names...

Not that obvious, there was no point in giving them wrong names, was there?

I did that so I could put it in testing mode and f*ck around on the map for a short break...
