No idea what this thread is devoted to, (rather than George Michael Fans) but I'm surprised Epic Sax Guy hasn't been introduced yet. Both really easy riffs to play - I know how to play both on a relatively accomplished scale on the Soprano (not very well), Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones, with some minor transpositions. I still don't know what this thread involves.

Other than than, instead of making a new thread, I'd love to discuss ragtime here. I've picked up some Joplin pieces again, (my first being Maple Leaf) and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. My only problem is that I thought all rags were the same, and I'm sure the only two pieces anyone can categorize as "ragtime would be Maple Leaf and the ever-present, ever-popular Entertainer.

I love the idea of it, and being a Jazz Musician, I guess I have a soft spot for it ;) Also, they're really fun to play, and look relatively hard, and sound challenging but are pretty simple.

I think the thread was about how sexy sax man turned what was a prank into a money making venture. I know a lot of musicians who have put in a lot of effort and haven't had the success of this guy wearing a silly outfit and playing part of an easy song.

I play piano and a few other things but I'm not very good at all. It's just fun for me. I can't read sheet music. I have thought about buying this midi program called synthesia.

@Blortis, Synthesia is nice, but I've always preferred Sheet Music, helps my sight reading, whereas Synthesia is more for the aural learners, something I never quite picked up. Still a good program anyway.

I use Muse Score to write out Piano/Band music, and I've done a few original compositions, which I've never made public; as I'm poor, Muse Score isn't the best way to advertise. I'd love to get Sibelius 6 or 7 / Finale, but again, I can't afford luxuries at the time.


@Kasparov, I never really talk much about the "real life", it never occurred to me that you were also a musician (or I was never informed of it until now). But the bassoon is a good instrument - personally I have never played a double-reed instrument, the closest I've come is clarinet - and I'm assuming you're more orchestral based (as in Symphony/Chamber Orchestra, that sort of thing)? The most outlandish thing I've seen in a Jazz Band is a bagpipe, so maybe you could pick it up too, it's not that hard.

I've never really found playing classical music interesting, maybe that's because I've never played a string instrument, or got good at something that was able to be played in an orchestral setting. But, if you're in neither (which I doubt), you should consider it. Both are really fun.

As for singing, that's great! I know a few of my friends who were looking for a fourth in their acapella group, maybe you'd be interested? :)

That sounds extremely interesting!

There might be a few obstacles in the way such as distance and scheduling and other random stuff, but I would love to try this out if possible.
