Harsh truth

WL players enjoy small maps, high detail gets you a high rating, but doesn't really mean popularity. Simple maps with simple ideas and also based on things players can actually relate to (e.g. real countries, popular games/films) are generally more popular.

You're welcome.

Challenge: Pick a map of your choice and shove it down players throats until it becomes popular enough to make it on Pulsey's "Always Played" list.

Pulsey takes the winner out for drinks when the protests are over.

Quadruel. I'm pretty sure I already win because the lottery players use this one also.

I think it would be interesting to add a "times played" to the maps.

I don't think I've ever played on Dual or Westeros.

This is why Fizzer should put in a Auto-game that swaps out the map and settings every week and possibly achievements to go with these specific settings like "Capture Yeezus bonus by turn 5" or something...

Anyways, I've been trying for ages to get this map popular: http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=34213

geographic accuracy can be a hindrance to good gameplay. Having territories with bizarre shapes and bottlenecks and connections that are not readily visible detract from a map's playability.

when making an historic or geographically accurate map, the map creator should use a little latitude in making the territory shapes and borders a more simply laid out.

100% geographically correct maps are impossible on Warlight. But a map maker should always try to get a high decree of accuracy in there maps.

Sometimes, geographical landmarks serve as the borders between countries/parts of countries, especially with the "older" countries such as those in Europe or Asia. So, a good amount of the time, following political borders will also follow geological borders.

If there's no political borders, geological accuracy would probably be one of the most interesting ways to make a map. Mars is a good example of a map with no political borders, so geological borders/landmarks are a good idea. (On a tangent: If a mapmaker tried to create political borders out of the surface, mountain ranges/rivers/lakes tend to do decently in defining land.)

Some of the more recent maps have been using Mountains and Rivers as a "blockade" to prevent maps from being a big blob, giving a map more strategic value by virtue of creating "zones" with chokepoints between them. Of course, we could just make these chokepoints haphazardly, but Mountain and River blockades are more realistic and give the map a more natural feel.

@Haupt: ME is pretty much forced down the throat already. I doubt it'd be anywhere as popular if it was't made by Fizzer and also the auto game. It also helps that ME is the WL currency for skill when you look at a new player's skill level.

@Yeezus: Like I said above, people will only play maps they can relate to. Not many mozambique players, or really, how many here even know where mozambique is, for that matter? Your map looks very nice and playable, but it really is no different to many others in terms of gameplay, no offense.
