Why is 16% the most popular luck level? Why is it used in Strategic 1v1 and Strategic 2v2, as well as many other competitive templates? Why (with the exception of 0% luck) do many players refuse to join games/tournaments with luck other than 16% luck?

Wouldn't that also be the same for lower luck levels?

Yes. I prefer %0, but some people don't like doing the math and would rather leave it up to someluck.

People like to play a luck level they know because it is annoying to constantly have to calculate the probability of a move. It is a disadvantage to someone if theyre not used to playing with a certain setting, like weird luck %.

I thought you were asking why isnt it higher. It isnt lower because that would make an easy game even easier.

Chris, I prefer 0% luck too.

Tigger, is 16% the lowest luck setting that guarantees a 4v2 attack? If not, why didn't another luck setting become standard?

my guess is that on 16% luck, there is a combination of skill and luck involved in the game. (3v2s not sure wins, 4v2 may give 3 or 2 armies etc)

Yea, 16% is the highest for which 4vs2 is guaranteed.
It was posted several times.
Comparison of 16% luck vs 0%:
capture chance:
	   0% 16%

3vs2 80% 80%
4vs2 100% 100%
5vs3 100% 93%
5vs4 0% 7%
6vs4 60% 60%
7vs4 100% 98%
8vs6 0% 2%
31vs18 100% 98%
31vs20 0% 4%

Ask yourself if you like when your 7vs4 fail, or if you win only thanks to successful 5vs4 or 31vs20. Higher luck % means luck affects game result more, I think it's obvious.

It isnt lower because that would make an easy game even easier.

I doubt change from 16% to 0% affect the difficulty in any significant way, but even if so, it would make games harder imo: lower luck = more even game.

it used to be 18 percent, but then some people complained about 4v2's not working so he changed it to 16 percent, the highest luck value where 4v2's are guranteed

well, one of the most funny thing i've seen this game is "i hate randomness, 16% luck is too much, i always set 0%' then leaving random move order unchanged ;)

true kszyhoo :)

I also rather have Cyclic Move Order with 16% luck then a game with 0% luck and random move order.

Stop making random move order tournaments people! ]:-)

@ kszyhoo: 16% luck has impact on each attack / defense; the move order only matters in some situations.
leftovers after turn 1 can already have a big impact on the outcome.

There's always luck in the world. The numbers are never always correct. It adds a little realism.
