Out of the list I prefer number 5. But the globe is a good idea. It is noticeable while still remaining sleek when viewed in phone format.

I like Huruey's idea best now.

Fizzer, all the apps you mentioned do have one thing in common - they use their logo. The WL is WarLight's logo (the full name logo is too big).

Ive caught this thread a little late but Huruey's sphere Blue Sphere looks the sleekest. Especially when seen on the device

You instantly recognise it as been the world and feels a lot less cluttered and a lot clearer than the flat image

I think it brings to the table what fizzer was trying to achieve with showing a smaller section of the world but instead of cutting off half the world its just "round the back" so to speak

The globe is interesting. I sent Huruey an e-mail.

What about ditching the frame and background and just having the earth, to make it less complex?

Hmm whats interesting is i think the large image looks better and a lot cleaner however when seen on the mobile device it seems very small and lost compared to the logos around it

also on my i phone none of the apps have a transparent background (and i have a lot). even my twitter one is different to yours. mine is a blue background with a white bird.

based on this im assuming that apple force you to have a background and because of the popularity of i phone you would probably be better of designing it with a background. (unless im missing something )

On the phone you can't really see the arrows there, so it looks like an app for maps or something. You said you want the icon to convey what the app is about.

Without the background the icon looks really small compared to other icons, but it's definitely worth considering. I kinda like Huruey's idea, but I'm not sure if it really represents WL...

I would be quite keen to see Hurueys design but more in keeping with the colours and styles shown on the Warlight home page i.e dark land, glowing shorelines, darkish oceans with diamond crosses and the red lines really glowing

Possibly even with a the globe rotated slightly so ocean is to the front with a "WL" or just "W" in the center

Just a thought :-D

the barely visible red lines make me think the app is offering a phone or travel service (or mapping/gps service if the red lines arent noticed). would the attack arrows from the game be better?

make me think the app is offering a phone or travel service

The two things people immediately see when browsing apps is the name and the icon. Given that the name has "War" in it, and that they're likely browsing a games category, I'm not really concerned about that.

on my i phone none of the apps have a transparent background

The standard does seem to differ between iOS and Android. What about using #7 for iOS and #8 for Android?

#7 is the best for iOS. I think #8 is the best for android. So I think that is a good idea.

too much space at the top/bottom for all of these to be a good app. hurey's idea is better for an app. these are better as a logo on the website's home page (i thought you were changing that).

^that is why I prefered to have letters under the logo. Less empty :D

Out of interest Fizzer, it seems like you have some reservations about Hurueys Globe style logo. What are your thoughts on this? i know it is taking the Warlight Brand in a slightly different direction so would you rather keep the app logo as close to the original as possible?

I think #7 for iOS and #8 for Android will work fine but in my opinion it does lack that spark...that umph....that twinkle.... if you know what i mean lol

I still think on iOS it would look better with a thin silver border (on image #7).

Also, can you do screen shots of your phone rather than a picture of it? I think the image would be a lot clearer for us to see.

On iOS you hit home button and power button at same time, and it will be saved in your photos. I'm sure android does it somehow too.
