Results of week #7

1. Europe 1066 http://warlight.net/Map?ID=7404 - By Moros. With a total of 15 votes. A quote from Ranek:
Almost 1000 territories and each with its ancient name. What a vast effort. Combined with an accurate technically execution, this map is a fantastic asset for the map selection. Obviously, the map itself might be way too big for casual competitive games and is rather limited to roleplaying and diplomatic games as well as giant FFAs. The only two things that I dont like, but easily can ignore, are at first the layout. All the ships and different shaped, colourful bonusses make the map look confused. It takes some time to become familiar with the environment. But after a little acclimatization you will enjoy it. and at least the faces in the left - I dont like those features, for me it makes the map look messy. But as this is my personal impression, I wont take it into account. This map is pretty impressive and deserves to win.

Taisho:
great map all around really, a healthy emphasis on naval importance which only works so well because of the size of the map. The number of bonuses becomes a little overwhelming, but it's not meant to be played alone. Creativity and dedication turned this map into a real gem and makes it a solid 1st for me this week.

NinjaNic:
Sea territories make for great tough battles. I like the 2 layers of bonuses. Large map, great for 5v5's. Covers almost all of Europe and is neat too.

2. Renaissance Italy http://warlight.net/Map?ID=12815 - By Apollo. With a total of 11 votes. A quote from Ranek:
Unfortunately I cant define if it is more strategic than ancient Greece. But it does look better. The artwork is minimalist, but perfectly executed it is visually appealing (except the bearded old mans face in the top right corner, a compass rose would have been made more sense to me). This map is a solid option for 1v1 or 2v2 games.

Taisho:
It's a map well done, with appropriately named territories and carefully drawn borders. One thing I didn't like is the dimensions of the page as a result, but considering the shape of the country it's understandable.

3. Ancient Greece http://warlight.net/Map?ID=536 - By Qi. With a total of 7 votes. A quote from Ranek:
As I already said I cant define, if it is strategically more valuable than Renaissance Italy. The design is neat, though not very appealing. Further there are too many sea connections, in my opinion. Anyway there is at least one thing which has slightly been irritating in a good way. The map creator provided a great amount of different scenario distributions. Although this map is obviously meant to be played in competitive 1v1 games, in general, there is the opportunity to explore those scenarios, too. Which is a lovely little detail, that somewhat improves the map.

Taisho:
with the current template (Season XVII) there's really only 2-3 bonuses that are ignored, otherwise it's a gut wrenching battle with a lot of unexpected turns that makes for a good game. It's certainly one of my favourites.

I think the recent crusades map stands a chance, especially in terms of roleplay/diplo.
