Would it be possible to create some kind of map moderator, who could step in and fix broken connections and such on all maps?

From what I can see on the maps and in the forum, there seems to be quite a lot of open issues with broken connections...

I've been thinking about something along those lines. However, we need to be careful, since map creators that are actively working on maps don't want someone coming in and mucking around with their map. Having two people work on the same map at the same time is troublesome.

Instead, I wanted to try to identify "abandoned" maps - maps where the map creator is clearly neglecting the map. Interested players could then adopt an abandoned map, so they can give it the care and love that the map creator isn't providing.

I would also e-mail the map creator and ask their permission, giving them ample time before their map is considered abandoned. If they didn't reply after enough time, that would basically be consent that they're not going to fix the issues.

Does anyone wish to volunteer to adopt an abandoned map?

Reporting in. I could fix the Middle East, to start with.

Thanks - I sent Romper an email about the Middle East map.

What maps need fixing that aren't being fixed?

Also for this I was thinking perhaps you have a "created by" and "edited by" crediting (or just not list the editor). I wouldn't want to take credit for a map I didn't design, especially if all I'm doing is going through a map and fixing connections and maybe adjusting some bonus values.

When's that mapping forum coming? :-)

Another step is to have the moderators assist in the approval process. So they wouldn't work on the map at the same time as the creator, but would be another reviewer before a map gets approved. Or perhaps even suggest some revisions to a map creator, via creating another version. The creator could then see the changes to the map and would just need to permit the changes. In the latter case if the map isn't 'abandoned' per say but the creator doesn't have the time to do the manual work and is still generally around they could let someone else fix all the connections on Big USA for example and then just approve the fixes or something. Instead of giving a moderator full control in that situation. You also have to be careful who you choose as moderators as you don't want people jacking up a map with poor/unnecessary changes (like making Korea default to a bonus value of 1 for example).

Ha!

Mapping forum created.

The moderator idea is good for a long-term goal. For the short-term, however, the map adoption is something we can do now without waiting for code changes.

I sent Rashaz an e-mail about Big USA. I suspect this is the next one that will be looking for an adopter. This one needs someone ambitious!
