Here you can share your stories about when you joined Warlight etc.

Some questions (If you need some guidelines)
How did you find Warlight? When?
What was your first multiplayer game like?
Have you improved since you joined?
Any other memorable moments?
Etc?

My Story:
I found WL from a review on JayIsGames back in 2010, when WL was in beta. I really enjoyed the single player, and I knew that I had found something great. One of my first multiplayer games was quite interesting; I was just starting to use the internet socially and was quite immature, and my game was with someone who was drunk and (although I didn't know who he was then) Fizzer. Since then, I have improved slightly, but seeming that I was so bad at the game when I started, my win rate has remained dismal. Other than that, I've almost won a tournament, gotten a half hour worth of tips from someone who kicked my ass, and had hours and hours of fun!

I look forward to reading your stories :)

Like most I found Warlight though the single player section of game posted on Armour Games back in October 2011, making me the first of that large wave of new Warlight players. My first game was on the Liberty City map where I promptly lost.

Since then I played a large amount of single player games and began doing what I originally joined Warlight for. Creating maps. My first creation was never published and I scrapped it near publishing the final version. It was very much a creation to learn the ins and outs. Shorty after I made and published Silly Isle before setting out to make my most well known map to date. It took over 1 month to make and to this day is still my highest rated map with a rating of 3.78, closely followed by some of my more recent creations: Europe 2050 and Earth 1914.

With the success of my solar system I found myself adventuring back into multiday games with rarely any single player games. Since then I have reached 8th in the 2vs2 ladder with a very helpful teammate and even launched a Skunk940! YouTube channel with a main aim on Warlight.

I have most definitely improved since when I joined Warlight, both at playing Warlight and my knowledge around the areas involved, geography Etc. I look forward to playing Warlight, creating maps and seeing what more Warlight has to offer for a long time to come!

I discovered WarLight on a site called Arcadeprehacks. I was looking specifically for a decent strategy game (that site has a huge database of games from multiple sites and you can play unhacked games there too). I found WarLight and enjoyed the single player levels, particularly the Europe challenge. It was a long time before I decided to make an account, because I was having so much fun on single player.

My first multiplayer game was one called 'Battle of Earth'. I think I made it and it was probably a terrible game. I lost anyway. At first my win rate was about 20% but I really didn't mind. I loved the idea of conquering worlds using strategy.

Weeks after I joined the site, I made a game and invited the Creator of WarLight, Fizzer. To my surprise he joined and the multi day game began. I wondered if he would truce with me so I PMed him asking whether he wanted an alliance (as the creator of WarLight, I though, being an idiot, that he would have to remain neutral). He soon disproves that theory though by telling me to:

Admit it, you asked everyone for a truce

I told him the truth (that I as merely curious as to whether the creator of WarLight would make a truce) and he never answered back :D

A while later I decided I wanted to make a clan (this was after discovering the forums). It was a completely open clan and I was ridiculed a lot for it. I made a prat of myself in the forums a lot (comparable to Moto). I like to think I have become more respectable on the forums - I know I've improved everywhere else: my gameplay, my clan etc. I can't help but feel this is the face many people have after reading my posts :D

I've attempted to do things for the community too. After I bought a membership I tried to make fun custom scenario diplo games (this was a long time before the main diplomacy buzz). Unfortunately I was still a poor player and my lack of understanding of things like luck meant my games were never popular with top players. Noobs seemed to enjoy them though. Other projects I've been a part in are the Strategic Masters Tournament, the Warlympics, WL Robot Wars, maybe a few more if you look back. I will forever envy people like G. Mac who have created so many successful competitions for the community.

Anyway that's my story - probably more boring than most. Tl;dr? You lazy shit go back and read it then :P

I found warlight back when it came out on Armorgames. I really enjoyed the single player levels, and I loved making custom games too. But, back then, I was reluctant to make accounts on things on the internet, so I stuck with single player and eventually forgot about it. Then, several months later, I remembered the game and decided to go back and play it again. Best decision I've ever made XD.

I'd like to think I've gotten better since I first made an account, but I doubt my win rate is much different. I guess I understand the strategy better, especially for 1v1 games.

Let's see, stories...
I remember how excited I got when I was invited to my first tournament. (It was the Azja- Just for Fun tournament, Idk how to link it) I thought it was a huge deal, I was thrilled that people thought I was good enough to invite me to a tournament. I realized eventually that it wasn't a bid deal, but it was good to feel special :)

- reaching 12th spot on ladder (which I could've never dreamed of)
- reaching the CS division of REGL
- winning my first 24ffa
- and than some good tournies I won and quite a few games I really enjoyed

I was one of the influx of people who arrived from Kongregate.I enjoyed the game on kongregate and i loved it more when i learnt there was a multiplayer version.
Arun yeah you were very annoying in the original days of your warlighter, firstly we bitched about the clan name (show some originality everyone that plays warlight is a warlighter then you got us even more annoyed by the constance clan list you did every time.Glad you hate old arun however to make you feel better i dislike old ironheart.

Interesting, Guess I will share my story. So....like many I started playing single player on Kongregate, Summer 2011 ( i didn't realise there was multi-player though) forgot about it for 6 months or so, went back to it, and found multi-player on Febuary 6th 2012. I started playing those DE 4 FFA auto games (god I was bad) and I was like that for quite awhile, intill I discoverd the forum. I heard about clans and more info on the game. I tryed out for two clans. But I was so bad I had no hope. I even participated in the First Nation cup. Even though i was still bad, i started to make a few friends. Sinse my faliure of geting into a clan, a very kind person called Ska2d2 created a Noobschool Thread created because of my faliure. i managed to get help from top players like Luxis•apex and ska himself. Because i din't get in a clan, as noobs did back then, I started up my own clan, late August ( made a fool of myself on the forum) it went off to a bad start, but then I started to get a few members. Also I was a member, I still was a bad player (improving slow and steadily because of Ska's help.
About the same time as that I discovered Role play, started to make a few of my own, also while joining others. Since then I've created a few goods one and plan to continue, I even set up my own RPM organisation. Unfortunately that took away my attention on getting better. From forums and games I got to know a few more people, got invited to more games/tourney's/Rp's. Then I got help from Warlightvet, I don't know if he's still active, I knew him well, and he teached me a lot, and I was improving more due to his help. During the same time I was getting involved in the community, I created the British leagues, helped out with some World Cup things, the RPM group.
By the end of 2012, I had achieved a few decent things, and became a respectfully good Roleplayer. And an Average player. At the start of 2013, I was very active for a month or so as I had a lot of time on my hands, but I had to many games, lol. I've never played so much since. There's nothing much else to say. Those who have known me will understand more. During my time, I have made a strong friendship, with my clan, and also my role-play friends, which I invite and get invited by, that is one of my best achievements by gaining respect and friendship by them. I have learned much, I have become more mature and don't make a fool of myself anymore(on the forums).

I hope I am now considered as a Decent and respectful player, I have reached, 25th in the 1v1 ladder and 5th in the 2v2. I've recently been tutored by Pulsey and JSa, while also getting advice from others. I've created a few leagues and tourny's aswell, I have also joined many. My active ness is not as high as it used to be, but I'm not planing on retiring any time soon. Recently I have been making maps. And have a few coming out soon. I hope this hasn't wasted 5 minutes of your life reading, there's so much to say I haven't been able to get everything in, but I doubt much people care, lol. Good day.

Well I was the first to do the Nations Empires and Other Colonies Scenario but I scrapped it when I couldn't figure out how to make things fair.(No body copied and that one in multi day was another guy who had the same idea but was able to put away the quirks. Well you see calculus went the same way...when Isaac Newton created it another guy did too on the European continent. You see that match between the ninja and pirate with 100% kill rate....I created that before there were levels. I made historical games that I never really played again for the same reason of not being fair. That Diplo you see often was a combination of me and my friends combining our ideas into that.....well after a while many different forms were made also(Btw I got that idea from a non scenario colony game)My games are out there I was just the first to do them. My scenarios were unjust so I never continued them.

Also all my scenario games were real-time so with my new self interest of booting(during the time I was) People were booted left and right when my patience ran short and mercy was not given to large empires.

Might as well put in my own tuppence-worth...
As a young sprout, a group of friends and I used to gather from far and wide for our much-anticipated game of Risk. As many of you well know it's nigh impossible to play that particular board game without sparking tensions, some rather heated arguments and perhaps a tussle or three (playing with older brothers is not advisable). The thing about Risk was, no matter how hideous your slimy victory and how pissed-off the others were at the time, we would always be up for playing again... And again...

It was these long evenings spent glaring at my opponents over my 2 infantry and 2 cavalry cards, cursing my bad luck on the last draw, that made me thirst for the same thrill again. My friends and I had been slowly separated by different careers, moves, etc. so meeting up for something as trivial as a board game was out of the question. I was innocently stumbling my woes away when I was struck with an idea! Why not look for an online risk game? Conventional risk, but playing with strangers... Limitless backstabbing potential with no consequences! I plugged 'free online risk', or something along those lines, into Google and found Warlight...

After playing the tutorial I felt my prior knowledge of risk would be enough to get me by... I was wrong... My first game was brutal. I was against someone who's name I couldn't pronounce, on an alien map with settings I didn't understand. I plunged into the deep end and got booted after a couple turns (after I realized I had lost... Not wanting to give the satisfaction of a win to my enemy. Booting came as a surprise!).
Despite the embarrassment of my first game, I kept on trucking. Even in defeat I found it really fun. After another 1v1, a 3v3 and a 2v2v2 I got my first win! Straight after I got my second! And that was it. My name is Gror and I'm addicted to Warlight...

Game after game ensued. A couple wins and a shed-load of losses, but I just kept on truckin'. I made friends, not least of which a Belgian with a Japanese name (imagine), and begun to get invited to games and even tournaments! First tournament was a 2v2 africa with a total stranger. I don't think we madde it past the first round... But I've improved drastically and along the way joined 2 clans. I must give credit to V.I.W. I met Sundancer in a 24 Concentration (I'd become one of the usual suspects) and after a couple more I inquired after the unusual initials. He told me the meaning and asked me to join, and that's when my Warlight career really took off. The friendliest clan you could ever hope to join. Hilarity round every corner. We certainly are a bunch of Weirdos.

I naturally slid into as many role playing games as I could, eager to foist my imagination onto others. Through these I was acquainted with Discord and various other {rp} players. I had settled for befriending this group, doing roleplaying outside Warlight even, until the thread was made on the clan. It seemed as good a time as any to cement my long-standing history of rping. I'm pleased to say I was accepted without a hitch.

But enough of this waffling. I could go on forever. I've learned a lot, not only in Warlight-related skills, but in many other ways. I've thoroughly enjoyed playing. I think it's time to just thank Fizzer and be on my merry way!

1v1 anyone?... ;)

Those settings were popular before there were levels, where do you think I got the idea from?

Also what makes you think you were the first person to make this style of game? I don't like it when people think that they made the settings which then became largely used... (unless their name is in the template, eg szewuropa and Qina)
