Like, do you get a random player or what. Like right now, if my 2v2 was ranked it would be third in the world, but the best placed player we have played is ninth. So does that mean that as you get better you play better people, or is it random?

no its not like that
first you have to choose a partner to start your ladder
someone you know who's a good player at team game
that player should also accept your request to be a team in 2 vs 2 ladder
your team starts with a rating of 0 initially
as you keep playing the ladder eventually you and your partner will get ratings and ranks based on your performance in the ladder
both of you will get the same rating
if you decide to have a new partner,you have to leave your old one and again start with a rating of 0 with them

I already have a team, which you would know if you read my post.

Thomas, you are correct, for example:
Imagine your rating is 1700. You'll get an opponent with 10% + / - rating
---> you will play against anyone else whose rating is between 1530 and 1870

It's the same system which is used for the 1 v 1 ladder.

What does that mean for players/teams of rating 0? 0 +- 10% = 0

Can you only play other players with a rating of 0?

eh I don't like it we are vs top teams who have probably been doing this for years we are bound to lose :P

This template has only been on the 2v2 ladder for less than 6 months...

Consistency..... You can't change the template in the middle of a run.... If you want variety you play REALTIME or SEASONAL ladder...

The Real-time ladder is the currently only ladder with varying templates. In terms of the 2v2 ladder, yes it does get boring which is why there has been a decrease in activity recently, and also why 10th place is rated 1803 right now.
