In our clan, it is generally accepted that taking #30 on the real-time ladder, or #100 on the 1v1 ladder, qualifies as an 'elite' player. However, it is obvious that there is a huge difference in skill between someone who can be ranked #100 on the 1v1 ladder and, say, szeweningen. Learning does not end there; as a result, we are working on setting a program in which players can achieve a Masters' degree, and then, if they truly do amazing work in 1v1, a doctorate degree.
This program will not be created overnight, and obviously, it must be created with realistic requirements and goals. However, for now the following requirements for the two degrees have been decided:
Masters' degree: Ranked #1 on the real-time, seasonal or 1v1 ladder;
Doctoral degree: no specific requirements, but thus far only Master of Desaster, szeweningen, Gnuffone and Kryzchu have earned it, with maybe one or two other players qualifying or coming close to qualifying.
Since teaching skill to post-undergrad players is obviously more challenging, I would like to set up a chat with some of the players who qualify for a Masters' and doctoral degree, to determine what resources my clan can provide to aid players in reaching the next level, and to iron out the requirements of the two new degrees. We hope to be able to provide such resources, as we are very dedicated to teaching, and providing an environment for growth in 1v1 skill. On a side note, since I do not qualify for a Masters' degree, I have a new goal: to graduate my own school.
