We had a decent discussion going on this in a thread, but I can't find it...because this forum is in drastic need for an overhaul (IMO). So, with that in mind, I think we need a single thread to discuss ideas about what to do/not to do on these forums...IF Fizzer ever decides to change them.

As I mentioned, I have lots of ideas and would be willing to help. I'd just like to know where his vision is at on this topic before expending a lot of energy on it.

Here are my ideas (updating this now). I am not going to say switch to a particular software (vBulletin, etc) as Fizzer may want to keep his site software neutral. Instead, I will post functionality ideas...

1) Better searching. Pretty much all you can do is search for a thread by title really. On most forums you can click a person's name and search for all their posts. Poor search mechanics means I could not find these comments referenced above in previous threads. It also leads to all the duplicate threads we have going, and tons of clutter.

2) More mod tools. Merge threads (combines posts). Lock threads. Sticky threads.

3) A 'trash' forum only visible to mods/admins where questionable content can be moved to allow admins to review. Content can also be left here for later reference on a poster but will not be seen by all players.

4) A 'board room' forum for mods/admins to discuss things. Again, only visible to mods/admins.

5) Posters can report posts.

If Fizzer wants to keep this in house, we could do something like this (there are many tutorials out there, though not sure how hard adding mod tools are):

i would rather see updates in other things. current forums do their job just fine imho.

tl;dr? More mod stuff.

PS - I agree some other things take priority. But perhaps some of these forum things we can help with? My point is while many people say who cares, it is just forums and does not effect the game...the crap being posted on here may eventually take down the whole site as people push the limits of what is 'allowed'

I think the forums are fine

PS and Pooncrew, I disagree. Fizzers own posts can not stay at the top, the clan league is half way to the bottom, and all the good off topic threads are getting dropped. The only people that are actually content with this are the trolls and there are so many its hard to change anythig!

As Turtle said, I disagree that they have been quiet. Apparently you have missed all the blatant racial and other slurs on here in the last couple weeks as well.

As far as your 2nd point about mods. I'm not sure those functions exist (they may, but he has not been public about it). I am sure Fizzer (and probably Mercer) can lock threads, delete, etc. I highly doubt anyone else can. I do know these can be done:

1) promote threads
2) move threads
3) alt checking

Outside that, I have no idea if anyone not on the warlight staff can do anything else. And of those 3 abilities, I know of a few people that have some of those abilities but not all. But, I am guessing nobody beyong Fizzer/Mercer has the power to do any real moderating because they would do stuff (say edit a post) and right now the board is not set up to denote who changed something. He's too smart to give that control without transparency or he'd get accused of everything.

Apparently Krzychu has access to the seasonal ladder data too. I guess these boards seem to have puppets behind the scenes where we have no idea who can do what. it would be nice to have designated mods with tools so everyone knows why things are done.

I have seen a few posts deleted and Colonel obviously got a warning for swearing at bane, Bane also told me he has had something like that happen to him 6 times
