Feel free to use this thread as reasoning/debate purposes.

I personally loved WarLight 1.0 the best for the old community, Membership value and good rp base. WL 2.0 is still the best though imo since Levels made it worthwhile to play for new players and it streamlined clans.

EDIT: Sorry, suck at making polls and my computer gets 30 new malwares the second I go to a website and I have to run 5 virus scans et al.

I dont understand. The game is better than ever. The only thing i would say is worse is the 2v2 ladder template.

Sure, there are changes desired, but it is still better. I would say the forums are much worse but that is the caliber of poster, not the site itself

Not really nostalgia.

Chris, I think things were better when the Member wasn't so much of a thing as much of a donation (that is an entirely different debate though, so I digress).

Though I will contradict myself from earlier and say that I have nostalgia of the great, tight-knit community of old.

No-Luck as the standard set-up is kind of annoying. There really isn't any difference between versions since its mostly optional stuff, but I think V 2.0 was more major than 3.0, and that 1.0 was like the Utopia of this game.

Like all (most at least) I support Fizzer et al fullheartedly as the game progresses, but this is purely a poll to see who misses which version, or prefers the current.

^RT Open Games Diplo has decreased in quality over time. I remember when I had to make 6 Player FFAs when I wanted diplomacies (I had no membership at the time), and everybody would flock to the awesome Diplomacy games when they were up. Le Count H is notable among this; good scenario guy of the time.

It's funny, I like to classify Open Games into 4 eras as far as custom scenarios:

Classical - The birth and realization of the ideas that would become norms of the future, or outcasts.

Dark - Repeats and copy+pastes of Classical games, with little variation.

Anti-Renaissance - Tons of new variety of games, great games, but very crappy and just shrivels of what the Classical Era diplomacies were.

Contemporary - Bootfests, screaming matches and flooded with sub-par Westeros and bland World Diplo.

it's scary yes, how many ideas and great scenarios of the "Classical" were lost. I.e. Huns vs the Romans. Good Le Count H scenario on the Greater Middle East Map? Which featured no rules, and regional warlords scrambling to survive Hunnic onslaught and the Romans striving to defend the horde.

Many of the better diplomacies are located in multiday. But I host my 1801-1953 diplomacies sometime on the Islamic weekend.

Yeah, we're very open-knit now; look at the 100 games being hosted in RT right now, and the new forum post that came out as I was typing this response (Pretty cool if that last one came true).

I like this question!

From beta up to 1.14, most things that were added were considered improvements, so I guess version 1.14 would technically count as my favorite? I'm not such a fan of Facebook, but other than that the 1.15 and 1.16 updates were still nice.

What I disliked about 2.0 was
(1) ads, but then again, I can disable this as a member (which I do) as I feel I support WL already in different way (by bying a clan and 2 memberships). I understand the need to earn some money to pay for servers and Fizzer needs to eat and buy clothes as well in between working on Warlight, right?
(2) that the point system created a bunch of lottery games
(3) that some of the member benefits were devaluated without anything really in return (as levels could unlock almost everything now).
(4) making clans official created a whole bunch of unnecessary clan drama and a generation of trolls.
So all together, for me personally, the small advantages of 2.0 and further didn't compensate for the small disadvantage, so I can't really say it became better for me at that time.

Since I largely ignore coins and coin games for now, I actually don't dislike the update to version 3 and further. It brought some interesting things like the no-luck cycles and there were some great updates like the end-screen and alternative colours that I appreciate. Although the old community was better, the game itself is changing in interesting ways.

However, to summarize, I think I do like 3.07 now and I did like 1.14 (and earlier) at that time. I wouldn't enjoy it if I had to play 1.14 again now as many of the new features would be gone, but I probably wouldn't have enjoyed 3.07 in my early days are there are too many things I don't really like and try to ignore. It was nice that WL was still relatively small and limited at the time that I joined.

See: https://www.warlight.net/News for all different versions of WL.
