Reddit's code is open source if I'm not mistaken if you want to go for that system.

I, however, strongly disagree with using a voting system to replace moderation and having a report function has never replaced moderation, it only supplements it.

You are completely correct that the forum's issue is low-value content, not rule-breaking. That's why all I want is a few mods who would merge topics like all those threads about the same clan and would move off-topic posts from at least the most important threads. Just tidy things up.

I completely agree with Fizzer. The forums are fine the way they are. Im not quite sure why people are so upset with them. For the most part the posts on here are constructive and interesting. If we are going to do anything to the forums, it should be ported to mobile. It seems like its always the same 50 people on here, we could use some new blood. Maybe adding mobile access will help? Right now I equate it to 50 people all stuck in the same room together, eventually your going to get bored and frustrated with other people.

When I browse the forums, I find rule-breaking is quite rare. The biggest problem is just low-value content. That is, people posting things that are uninteresting and don't add to the conversation. You can't fix that problem with moderators, since there is no way to design a rule that forbids people from posting things that are uninteresting since everyone has a different definition of what that is.

The real solution to this problem is a voting system, like reddit/slashdot/etc. The high value content gets upvoted and the low-value content gets hidden from view by default.

I agree, there is not really rule breaking going on and the issue is low value threads/posts.

What I don't agree with is that mods cannot fix that. We don't need 4 threads talking about same sex couples. A mod should be able to combine that into a single thread. The answer is not more rules, it is organization. That is where mods can help. Combine threads. Move posts that are off topic (to prevent derailing). Make subforums (like a recruitment board under the clan board) or forums (a strategy board perhaps?) as needed. Spam is killing the boards.

It would also be nice to have more customization on the multiplayer dashboard. Why should a person that has no interest in clans see all those posts? Why do we need 7 posts from our own clan forum (the 4th newest thread on ours hasn't been posted on in 2 years)? A separate topic, but we need mod tools on our clan forums so they are actually useful. It would be nice if the forum posts on the dashboard noted what forum they were from (perhaps color coded). If that section of the dashboard were spruced up, then maybe we could ignore a lot of the spam.

I have never advocated for censorship. What I am asking for is organization.

Here's a thought:

Fizzer could make it so that new blood didn't have to buy / "earn" the ability to post in the forums.

I've been a Warlight player for over 30 days, and I finally got in today only because a player who was probably going to lose next week decided that our multi-day game wasn't moving fast enough for them, so they surrendered.

( It wasn't the way that I wanted to win, but I wasn't in a position to look a gift horse in the mouth.)

Second, if 'jz' is experiencing :

On basically every visit to the forums, I find soft porn, vulgar images, or attacks on users/clans/minorities.

I would be inclined to believe, apologize, ask for assistance, and investigate;
not ignore and publicly dismiss.

A report post function, with some penalty for obviously or constantly abusing the report function is necessary... though I think we can simply report a person by visiting their profile.
