I am not talking about the American invented patriotism, that's basicly nationalism with huge spots of foreign-hate (racism).

- I am talking about the patriotism invented during the French revolution, where you worked together for the greater good, and illumination :)

Of course in the name of a certain country, but the country was never in focus. "The Country" was an ideal, which - as mentioned - you worked together for, in order to achieve.

Mon- grels/gols: May very well have had the greatest empire, if you meassure it by empty deserts, lack of technological advancements (created by their own people) and horses. But other than that, they were simply nomads, running around with their small horses, burning down stuff.

If you want my honest opinion; I believe the kurds are in fact tolerant, of the "old" minorities (yezidies,alawites,assyrians) in the levant, but they have a hate for the arabs/turks, who've opressed them throughout generations.

So, I don't believe that in 50 years, we'll see a 100% non-opressing Kurdistan, towards the arabs. But the kurds, are already using nationalitic minority-militias.
