I think the British bigger, but it's Mongolian large and continuous area, and you have to remember that the world did not know about America Australia and parts of Africa, then in terms of conquest are controlled and attacked the most of the world.
So relative to 1200 ~ they were stronger than the British empire, but they fell fast

I never said the British only controlled Canada and Australia. I said they were large landmasses with a low population. Alot of the Empire was also built on claims that weren't contested.

Xedrox, you are only the second person I know to point out how Britain had the most land (I am the first). So I just want to say thank you for knowing your stuff.

If we're comparing empires now, I just want to say that Alexander the Great and his Macedonian Empire conquered more land than Rome has ever owned, kicked Persia's butt to the curb, and Alexander took a lot of said land because he was bored. Of course, the empire collapsed with Alexander's death, but they have some of the most rapid expansion on record.

Xedrox, that second map is off- the Mongol Empire never controlled India (which was under the Delhi Sultanate at the time). Only later, after the Mongol Empire had split, was India under the control of the Mongol-descended Mughals (lit. "Mongols").

Yea I thought that one was off a little. It does say Copyright 1996 though. The third map is the best one.

Someone remind me, I forgot, what was that ethnic group in Afghanistan who are originally Mongols?

I believe it's the Hazaras, although there's almost certainly a lot of Mongol ancestry in that geographic region in general.

Britain also has quite a bit of soft power that helped it transition away from being a superpower. There are actually countries that voluntarily joined the Commonwealth of Nations despite never having been under British rule. You're the guy who was a dick in high school but was also super-classy and loaded and now that you've matured in some ways people are fond of you and willing to forget most of that history.

Lets not forgot it was UK that follows America in each war

The American colonists gained independence, and the British failed to seize it back in 1812. The Americans failed, however, to get Canada but they're basically the neglected 51st state right now.

The USA's main goal was to stop Great Britain from stealing US sailors and forcing them to join the Royal Navy, which is one of the factors that led to the war. The US lost, but Britain stopped stealing people, so it is sort of a win-win. Also, I think the Oregon territory was a dispute between the two nations at the time, but I could be wrong about that.
