I've started to experiment with the concept of a 1789 World Map recently, and have come up with a consideration. It's a bit different to what I usually do, as it will likely be smaller, is more strategy-focused, and has a separate map for Europe. Its bonuses are all also only one territory, which should make games a bit more fluid, as you can give up a territory without it breaking a large bonus - you just lose the income for that territory. So what do you think? Should I go forward with this?

PS. If anyone fancies themselves an artist of some description, I could you their help with the background art. I've made a start, but I think it could look quite a bit better, to be honest.

I think it looks good so far. How many territories do you think this will be?

PS. Why 1789?

Ah napoleonic wars. That's a great Era to cover.

For background art, include these:

Picture of napoleon.
A few cannons close to each other firing at same time.
A few frigates near Denmark and off the coast of England.
Andrew Jackson near new Orleans, usa.
Thomas Jefferson near Louisiana ( pick either? ).
Picture of Alexander I.
Cavalry clashing near Egypt.
Infantry columns near Vienna or dresden.
An image of a tactical layout of troops ( imagine football game plans, or formation plans in battle. Like that. ).
Winter snowflakes near Russia.

These are all representative of things in the Era.

Just checked it.

George Washington became the first US President and the French Revolution started in that year.

Napoleon became Emperor in 1804. He also became the King of Italy in 1805.

Okay, so it looks like I'll go ahead with it then.

Genghis: Thanks for all your suggestions. I don't know if I can include all of them, because of the file memory size limit, but I'll try and do the majority of them.

Xedrox: It's hard to tell at this stage, but it should be fewer than my normal amount, which is about 1.6k.

Good idea I guess, don't make it some standard world map. First view:
-Toronto was actually called York up until 1834
-Britain did not control that much of India in 1789
-Warrington should be Manchester I think
-The Glasgow territory doesn't really include where the city actually is
-Belfast instead of Londonderry?

Your last point - isn't Belfast the capital of Ulster?

Actually in 1789, Toronto wasnt even York yet but known as Fort Rouillé, it is only in 1793 that the name of "York" was chosen.

Indeed, and that's where Ulster is.

So you are right, didn't realise that.

So why include Londonderry instead of Belfast?

Londonderry is what he's called it. Belfast should be the name instead of Londonderry.

Yes, I've just realized I used an 1815 map of India, so I'll need to go back and change some of it.

And I'll change Belfast, Warrington and Toronto.

By the way, do you think I should make a new thread announcing that I've decided to make this map, or should we stick with this one?

I like it, it looks good. Can I suggest doing a map of Africa to Oceania while they were still like 75% colonies next?
