Feature request - leave game or silence chat: 5/26/2015 16:14:04

Hi, all -

I have a feature request. In a couple of cases recently, I've been invited to a large fake game (like the "lobby" games) for the purposes of chatting. These games never start, and even if I decline, the game stays on my list, and it rises to the top of my list every time there's a chat comment.

I would really like the option either to leave a game I've declined permanently, or to silence chat within the game. My preference would be to leave permanently, and have the game off my list, but at least with the silencing, I wouldn't have to deal with it.

Thanks,
Dave

Agreed, this is one of the most annoying aspects of the game.

Agree %100. I try to explain this to the host and some get why it is a pain, others not. My advice for hosts is:

1) Make game with settings, invite people and see who will play.
2) once players are set, remake the game with those who are playing.

This way people are not subject to the game showing up forever. You may think "It is one game, they can ignore it" but if 5-6 people do this, you have 5-6 games on your list you don't care about.

At any rate, I would love to see a 2nd decline option. Like an Ignore Game option (where it would never show up on your list).

agreed. Nothing is more frustrating than having a game show up in your list for months, even though you're not involved. We need an ignore option.

Maybe it could be as simple as specifying that when someone declines a game (as opposed to surrendering or being eliminated) they no longer receive notifications about chat in that game?

That might be the easiest way to solve this, rather than adding new features to the Dashboard or something similar.

A workaround that might work.

When you are invited to a lobby/chat game do NOT accept OR decline. Instead ask host to remove you from the game.

If you have already accepted or declined there is no way to get rid of it through.

@TBest that doesn't always work. I currently have at least 3 games where I was removed before hitting accept or decline, but I'm still getting chats.

Queef is right. Once you are invited, you are stuck, regardless of removal. Creating a new game is the only way to stop chats

It's why a lot of diplomacy games are made that way.

I just tested it, and it works for the Default filter for me. If you change the filter to "unread chat" the game shows up, as one would expect. (I only use the Default, for my everyday WL)

That being said, I too would like the OP suggestions to come to life.

EDIT:
My workaround is how my clans chat game is set up (and the remove players work). Perhaps it is important that the game hasn't started?

It's funny to think of chat games still being around, until you realize you can invite more players to them.

Please implement this feature.

I currently blacklist anyone who invites me to a game I'm not interested in, and refuses to recreate it. And I'm talking of those ridiculous 40 player FFAs which last 6 months. Having that show up in my game list for HALF A YEAR drives me crazy :X

I am with you Master of the Dead. I tell those hosts the same thing and they get outraged. Well, don't invite me to something without asking first...unless you plan on recreating it before starting.

Basically what that host is saying is their 30 seconds to recreate the game is more important than everyone who declines being forced to ignore the game for months.

Agreed Chris and MotD, while I am guilty of not recreating games because they take forever to fill and I'm usually not online when they start (Like @ 1:00PM when a player from half a world away from me joins), so it is difficult to recreate. But I have 31 games that I am not participating in that are on my chat list. Most are diplos that I am not really that interested in anymore, with some exceptions.

Another suggestion kind of relating to this: Game Folders. This is helpful for players trying to train, or players that play a wide variety. For example: a competitive player may want to have 3 folders for the 3 main competitive gameplays: 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3. A player like me may want like: Competitive, Diplomacy, FFA, Chat games, and Junk Games.

Yeah our clan uses a chat game for most communication because the majority of our players are mobile only so they don't check forums as much. So for me, getting rid of unread chats as a filter would be worse.
