My boots are all from long, long ago.

A boot rate of 12.7% is not appealing. If boots expire in 3 months, my boot rate would be about 2-5%.

the boot rate may not be appealing, but it's deserved (no offence). Making boots expire would imo take away the point with a boot rate, I want to know how many games you've been booted based on all your games- not the 3 last months. Besides an expiration so short would just lead to higher fluctuations, due to much less data. At least make it a much longer time period- like a year.

I guess you are right, but people go through active and inactive spikes. Maybe I should put in my bio when I am active, like DanWL.

I'd put it in the tagline, since then you can see it without opening your profile. Anyway you can do something like that- it doesn't hurt :p

I think it would be interesting to have something on your profile that also shows boot percentage for the last 30 days, similar to showing points in the last 30 days.

Agreed QB. Maybe more like 60 days though, because its a lot easier to fluctuate in 30 days as Henns said.

I suggest that the shown boot rate is further broken down into boot times.

I tend to get booted from games that have shorter turn times (less than 3 days) because I occasionally go camping for the weekend, causing me to get booted from a few games.

I rarely get booted from games that are 3+ days, however that is not reflected by my boot history (Which is unappealing).

I suggest a boot rate breakdown into:

    * Realtime games
    * Games that allow less than 24 hours
    * Games that allow between One day to just under 3 days
    * Games that allow between 3 Days to just under 7 days
    * Games that allow longer than 7 days

This will allow hosts to know that they're inviting someone who is frequently booted from short games but rarely booted from longer games.

It'd be nice to specify a game range from which you want statistics. For example, my last 400 games are drastically different than my first 400 games. I still think long-term history is useful.

I actually really like this idea, but rather than a 30-60 day window, I would prefer a longer timeline like perhaps over 1 year

^ Or maybe just a number of games as an alternative to time periods.

If i would get booted in more then 10% of my games, i would start thinking twice before joining games.
Which i actually did and soon my boot rate lowered.
Most boots i experienced so far were well-deserved.
I experienced people with a boot rate of 40-50% (and some even more) and unsurprisingly, they were a pain to play with. They are usually in more then 50 games the same time, are online multiple times per day, yet they lengthened the games as much as possible. 3 day boot time - of course they never took their turn before the day 2 mark (Well, i started to love the "most x % boot rate" prerequisite).

Their shitty boot rate is the only punishment they get, and i really don't see why boots should expire.
No offense.

I agree that very old boots should expire, but IMO only after at least 2 years or more

I would have thought that some other people did this. I only do it to let people know that I am / aren't active. Beware: it uses many characters, unless you summarize it!

I'd like to see a boot rate for the last 30 days. In some cases, people have low boot rates overall, but have been getting booted left and right in the last month. That's something I'd want to know about before joining a team game with them. As of late, I've had terrible luck with teammates getting booted in the open games I've been joining.

Or two separate boot %'s. 1 for real-time and 1 for multi-day.

My real time boots are fairly high because I'm easily distracted by the other shiny things on the internet, but that's completely different from my reliability in multi-days

Can I suggest 1 thing to everyone here (who seem to get booted quite often and don't like others knowing)?
It could be beneficial if you guys only join games you know you could finish within the boot time? If you are going to play a real-time game with 8 players on a large map which could easily take up to 30 turns with a boot time of 5 minutes, make sure you are free for the next 2 hours and a half. If you are planning to join a multiday game with 2 day boots and no vacations honoured, and you plan on going on a short holiday away or you know that you may not have access to warlight - just don't join, remake the game with the same settings and longer boot times if you really wish to play those settings.

Sure sometimes you can't allow for occurrences like your internet crashing - you just forget about the game - your laptop breaks and you cant play in your multiday game. However this is why you have a boot rate, so other players are aware of how often things like this happen to you, and the probability (given your past) that you are going to get booted from the game.

Yes, profiles should show both the all-time boot rate and the boot rate from the last 60 days.
I only think boots should expire completely after at least a year.

90 days is a normal time for things similar to boot rate, too expire on comparable site.
It could also be that ONLY MD games can have the boot rate expire. (We need MD and RT boots separated for sure, I think)

Also if a player hasn't finished 100 games in the last 90 days, then the last 100 games should count. (Obviously the # of games can be changed, if you think it is a bit low)

@hedja any tips for this "you just forget about the game"?
