I'm bored of all this boring political garbage, so lets discuss something harder to argue about, SCIENCE!

First topic on the agenda: New Horizons. What's everybody's expectations for the coming views we'll get of Pluto and it's moons?

It has been said that we will be able develop a true/sentient AI within 2/3 score years. Technology has progressed rapidly for mankind ever since the turn of the 20th century. I wouldn't readily dismiss the possibility of such a thing.

Kur, it has already happened. There are self driving cars, bots that kick ass at chess, and bots that can do chores. Mix them together, you get something better than a human. It's freaking scary.

I think we're on the verge of being there. I dont think we're there just yet. The AI we have now is intelligent, but it doesn't have a true capability to learn on its own. Google cars, cant tell the difference between a good or bad driver. The chess bots can kickass, they rely upon primitive calculations using the rules of the game. If the rules changed, the AI wouldn't learn them on its own. It would have to be reprogrammed to know them. As for the chore bots, they will never desire to do chores of their own will. They are programmed to do so depending on the task.

We are very close to having AI that can think on its own. When it is able to do so it just may become aware. Thats when it will start getting scary. When it can learn on its own thats when the Skynet deal happens.

We can avoid a Terminator Future if we embrace Trans-Humanism. Basically, merge with the Machines and compete with the A.I

Merge with the A.I or just Machines?
I wouldn't want to be merging with an A.I just in case it could learn to take control of my body without permission but adding machine parts would be pretty awesome.

I have a very romantic notion of repairing my leg with a spanner :D

Yikes. I'd like to follow a certain alien's advice when it comes to having robots in my body.

The only one getting in my suit is me.

+1 million if you get the reference

So excited for pluto pics! Been waiting my whole life for this, I can't believe it's only 2 weeks away now!!! :D

From what we can see so far there looks like a large chunk missing from it's Southern pole, I bet that was causes by a collion with a large body that created it's moons, I wonder if it was Charon or another Kuiper belt object! :D
