Description

Happy 2016 everyone!
Please enjoy a brutal game on the largest map on WarLight.
Sorry that many territories in Greenland and eastern Russia are labeled "Snow," I could not find anything no matter where I looked except for piles and piles of snow. So at least it's accurate.
Honestly, I made this map for the benefit of the WarLight community. I hope you guys enjoy, and please leave a comment if there's a missing connection or misspelling. I want this map to be the best it can be.
Thank you all so much!

This is now the largest map on Warlight. It holds even more territories than the gigantic USA big map. That's intense. Congratulations NinjaNic!

I also do reccomend to add conections over the Pacific ocean connecting the eastern part of the map with the western.

Thanks Belgian Gentleman!
I was thinking of doing that, the only reason why I haven't yet is because I believed that the map would be so big that it would be frustrating to zoom out all the way in order to be able to click both territories on the opposite sides of the map. If I hear that more people want it though, I'll most likely add one between Alaska and Russia, and one more between Hawaii and Japan.

Wow, Nic. I've been asking you to do a really big map for a long time. When you do something, you really do it. This is incredible. The detail is phenomenal and some of the territory names (snow, more snow, etc.) are pretty funny.

Despite being a massive hex map, the gaps left for bonus boxes create nice chokepoints when used properly. I do agree with others that more trans-oceanic connections would be nice, as would links from east to west - both would be good in the case of Oceania.

I noticed a couple of broken connections, some of which were a big deal because they make the northern areas dead-ends. They are:

Wales - Brest
Yuzhni 7 - Kolguev
Copenhagen - Denmark
Lebanon - Mersin
London - Netherlands
Southern Texas - Coahuila
Snow - Snow (in southwestern Central Sakha)

A world capitals distribution would also be entertaining.

Once again, great work!

Thanks, Nathan! The connections are all fixed now.
I considered adding Pacific connections as well but decided against it because the map was so big that it would frustrate players to zoom out or scroll all the way to the other side. I appreciate the feedback!
Enjoy!

Great map, and great idea! I knew it was a matter of time someone tried to make the biggest map in WL.

Anyway, I bet you could have used another map projection... Greenland looks the same size as Africa, while it is even smaller than Argelia. It's not your fault, but it could have been a map with more inhabited territories. Anyway, 5/5.

(See this image to see what I pointed out, really interesting: http://images.mentalfloss.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_640x430/public/greenland-actual-size.png)

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Unfortunately I was already too far in the project when I realized that this projection was a bad idea. Did you know I played my first ever WL game with you?
Thanks for the rating!

Bonuses are too big. Apart from that, good map, but imbalanced when it comes to the size of bonuses.

massive, time consuming. Luck plays heavily with auto distribution at start... If you don't get a few uncontested bonus areas early, very difficult to win.

Cool map! I appreciate the distribution mode for strategic games.

After I finish my 9-player FFA I'll update this review. But that might take some time.

You may encounter some missing connections but I assure you that they will be fixed!

5/5 for sheer scale, but...

I really think that this map is great. Though I think that I would like it better if there was possibly a few more bonuses that didn't have as many territories. It makes it quite annoying to have to take around 10 turns just to get one bonus, but, I guess that's a part of having a hex map.

And thanks for all of the 'Snow' territories in Greenland and up North, that made it fun.

There's missing connections between Claushaven and Ikamiut, Copenhagen and Denmark, and Yuzhny 7 and Kolguyev.
Edit: All three have been fixed.

Players who start on one of the edges have a serious advantage because they only have to defend from one direction because there is no wrap around. If you start in the middle of the map, you are in danger from all sides and have a low chance of winning. I started in Japan and just rolled in one direction across the map, the people I attacked had to split their forces to defend against me and others.

really needs a link between asia and north/south america. would also put a link between oceania and africa..... nice map... but needs more connections between the main areas...
Response by map creator NinjaNic on 2/14/2016
I gotcha! I won't be adding any between Alaska and Russia though - it would be too annoying for players to click both territories on the opposite sides of this huge map. Thanks for the feedback!

I really love this map. What would make it better is if you included Antarctica and the oceans were hexagons as well and counted as territories. Of course, it can't be any larger than it already is. But I can wish.

Maybe someday Fizzer will increase the territory cap? Who knows???

I was in the World 1949AD World War III alternative unfair custom scenario game made by Commander
It's alot of territories but it's worth bonuses of the continents and large countries

Ao the bonuses could be smaller areas so the game can pick up speed quicker it took a good 20 turns for there to be anything really going on, and wrap around earth would be nice (connections between Alaska and Russia, and Hawaii and the Philippines, and i understand it can be hard to think of unique names for 3200 territories, but when there are more then 10 territories with Snow as it's name it gets hard to tell what I'm doing, just some thoughts.

Just spent hours destroying AI, awesome map. Definitely recommend. Not sure but it was to easy but I think this might have to do with a lucky geographic starting position.

Oof, this map is rough. It is not really fun to play when every territory is exactly the same as the next. It is tedious to conquer new land and large armies can get stuck far away from the fronts, never to be seen again (unless you have the airlift card in the game -- which I would highly recommend for a map like this!).

Also, I know it has been mentioned, but the projection is really bad. I also think the bonuses are a unbalanced; whoever owns Greenland has a massive income bonus that compared to say Africa or Australia.

Once all the connections are fixed, this will be a great map. Except not against AI when they don't surrender and you need to take over every single hex to win.
