Description

My first map. A map of the Byzantine Empire in 600 AD, on the eve of the Byzantine-Sassanian wars and the Arab invasion.

"Basileia Rhomaion" means "Roman Empire" - historically, the byzantines called themselves romans even after the fall of the western empire. The name "Byzantine Empire" came to be much later, in the renaissance, given by italians.

Join your armies and take over the empire. One Basileus to rule them all!

It's a really nice map, and it even looks great. Awesome job on your first map :)

One thing I noticed was Gibraltar. It defintely wasn't called Gibraltar at this point, as the name is derived from The arabic phrase "Jabal Ṭāriq", which means "Rock of tariq". As far as I understand, Tariq was some kind of muslim leader during the islamic conquest of iberia, which definitely hadn't happened yet.

Thanks! Juq mentioned something about this; forgot to edit Gibraltar when renaming some territories around. Update 1.1 with a few fixes on names, superbonuses and the title inside the map (it says AC instead of AD) is coming, and Gibraltar's got a new, smexier name as well as most greek and italian territories. :)

This is a goodlooking and appealing map, it's also fun to play on and has lots of connections to watch out for. Personally I found that Italy was perhaps a bit too easy to defend and dominate from. But that might just probably be due to the fact that I was playing against ai's. In my opinion the Aegean sea is a bit overloaded with Naval connections. The historical accuracy of the map can't be faulted though. Overall the map is entertaining and perhaps more suited to 1v1's 2v2's and 3v3's than any other type of gameplay. Well done. 4/5

Thanks! Personally, Italy is the one region I had trouble defending on the test game. The northern part, on your average warlords distribution, seldomly is viable as a pick because it's hard to complete, even with Rome. As for the southern part, it's a weak bonus worth 2; better options for that are present throught the whole map, so I didn't feel Italy was strong.

As for the aegean connections, well, that's the center of the empire, and pretty much all it's territories in it's late hours. Navigation on it is really fluid making it an interesting place to fight in (there were long skirmishes there in every test game; it's the one place you know fights are going to happen). It felt good that way; I might be wrong, though.

Good :) That was the goal for this one. I picked the time when the empire when it was essentially controlling mostly ports and the area around for that reason. Glad to see you liked it :D

Mediocre strat map. 4 stars.

Loses a star because the compass doesn't have all cardinal directions.

Lovely map! But it irks me a little that Italia gets 5 armies for 5 territories ( 1 army for Rome), when all other bonuses get one fewer armies than territories. I see no reason for such a discrepancy.

Still a solid 1/5. And it's not a strategic map tbh...
So I don't know if you really got "dexterous and strategical" advise...
