This page contains some tips on how to play WarLight more effectively.

[edit] Hotkeys

Visit the hotkeys page to learn how to effectively navigate WarLight with the keyboard. Not only does this allow you to take a turn with less mouse movements, but it also allows for things like deploying during the attack phase.

[edit] Set the Deployment Slider to Always

The deployment slider makes it easier to remove deployed armies when you change your mind on where you'd like to place them. You can simply click on a territory with deployed armies and drag the slider down.

However, the deployment slider is only enabled by default when your income is 10 or more. You can make the deployment slider always appear by following these steps:

  1. Click the Settings tab at the top of the game
  2. Click Change Deployment Slider
  3. Select Always and click Change

[edit] Skip the Begin click

WarLight requires players click the Begin button before starting to take their turn. This is useful for players who want to examine the map without risk of accidentally deploying armies.

This can be disabled to speed up play a bit by following these steps:

  1. Click the Settings tab at the top of the game
  2. Click Toggle Begin Click
  3. Uncheck the box and click Change

[edit] Set your My Games filter

The My Games page shows you the multi-player games that you're currently in. You can change the filter on this page to only show you games where it's your turn, which is very helpful when you're in lots of games.

Even further, the filter can also be set to show you games where it's your turn or have unread chat. This applies to public chat, team chat, and private messages. By using this filter, you can effectively show just the games you need to act on most of the time. However, note that there are a few rare instances where you still may want to see games even when it's not your turn and there's no chat. For example, if an opponent surrenders but does not say anything, or if you're in a tournament game without auto-boot where your opponent is idle and holding up the tournament.

To set this filter as the default, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Multi-player tab. This will implicitly bring you to the My Games sub-tab.
  2. Click the Options button in the top right.
  3. Set the Filter to Games where it is my turn or have unread chat messages
  4. Check the Save as Default check-box
  5. Click Show
  6. Un-check the Save as Default check-box, since it's already saved.

[edit] Enable Hard Disk Storage

WarLight can store maps in your local storage so that you don't need to re-download them each time you play the game. This makes the game load faster.

However, Flash by default only gives applications a very small amount of space, so you must manually enable this feature by following these steps:

  1. Click the Settings tab at the top of the game
  2. Click Change Hard Disk Storage
  3. Check the box and click Change
