It's actually around ten percent. America's arable land is around eighteen or so, but there's also a lot less people. 2% of the population are farmers, compared to China's 25% or so, I can't find a current number; however, China's number is dropping.

Other ways to beat China (Assuming the fight is with the US):

1. Get Europe to help

1a. Sanctions
1b. Military boasting

2. Don't send troops over. Let China come and die.

3. Get Russia to say "Yo, don't do sh*t."

That depends on your perspective. People in the western world who have lived their lives in (relative) comfort and under democracy see all of its flaws and are quick to feel disenfranchised.

People who've lived their whole lives under oppressive regimes look at our style of democracy and think it's next to heaven.

America is not an example I would call it an illusory democracy but some countries achieved a way higher stage of democracy.
