Everybody says they want to help people and that they care about people. Do you really care about people by donating money to people you don't know? I would say that almost all of us has donated money to the homeless, needy, or African children commercials. I should also say cancer research. The reason why we donate to these people is because we don't know them. If you did personally know them you would mostly think that the reason why they are like that is because they are lazy and do not want to work and you will be being financially supporting someone. With people that you know you expect them to return the money back, maybe with interests(if you're a Jewish Banker).

Is the reason why people do this mostly just so they could have a good image or meet their spiritual quotas?

The more honest person would be the man who only cares about himself. He might be selfish and egoistic but at least he is more true. Which may be why they also tend to do financially better and be more educated than the lying counterparts.

None of those parties really help mankind but at least one of them doesn't lie that they intend or do.

"Everything you do, you do for yourself" ~ The Martian

My perspective of life is that our actions are controlled out of guilt, or lack of guilt. If you give a poor man your coat on a cold winter's night, you are doing it because you would feel guilty if you did not. Heck, even holding a door open for people depends on the factor of your guilt.

Wow that's cynical. No offense but that's not my take on the world. When I hold a door open for my dad its because I genuinely care. The same applies to strangers though. That's how my parents taught me to act. You do right by people, they'll do right by you. Kindness for kindness. Sometimes I lapse from that moral standard...but when I do something nice its not because I feel guilty lol.

Holding a door is just social etiquette, it has nothing to do with caring about the person or feeling guilty. It is just expected, just like saying 'please' and 'thank you'.

But The Man who'd buy Spain is otherwise quite correct. I daresay most people donate out of pathos, mainly guilt and sympathy, a feeling that you have too much and are too well - off, rather than because they actually genuinely care about their lives. That is not to discount some people who actually do, I'm just saying its not most people. But I don't see that as a bad thing, however, help is help after all.

So if you chose not to do a certain nice thing, you would not feel guilty afterward? You do nice things for people only because you were taught and wouldn't feel good or guilty if you did or did not carry out that act of kindness? That makes less sense than what I said. Less humane, too.

Holding a door for someone doesn't make you a nice person, it makes you a polite person. I hold the door open not because I would feel guilty if I didn't, it is just expected of me, just like I expect others to do the same. It is a trivial matter, you guys are over-analysing it.

On charity, I daresay most do it because of a combination- out of care for others, to feel good about themselves and simply because of a sense of guilt. This is not a secret, many charities have been documented to use guilt tactics to coerce funds, sometimes from society's most vulnerable. You have to accept that human nature is not perfect.

Interesting application of basic economics. People will do whatever benefits them most. If the good feeling they get from donating to charities outweighs the value of the money they donate, they will donate that money. They do it for their own happiness, the recipients benefit only incidentally. That's why many charities have such heart-touching commercials on TV, or advertisements elsewhere. The ads increase the psychological benefit of donating, so happiness gained from donating becomes worth a larger amount of money.

Yeah, it is. They are a Semitic ethnicity. It is also a religion, but it is a race nevertheless.

Being Jewish is again not a race, Gosh GEneralPE and Trollberg, let me explain you why.

Being Jewish is not a race, you can be of Jewish cultural background from Yemen, from Poland, from Russia, from Persia, from Italy, from Spain, etc etc. Jews spread like the Christians or Muslims in many nations, genetically there is no Jewish genes at all, a Jewish Pole is genetically similar to any other Christian Pole. Jewish is mainly a cultural identity referring mostly to a religion. Modern Jewish people have nothing to do with the former Hebrews. Hence being Jewish is not being part of a race. I cant believe both of you being that naive and ignorant, anyway I hope now you wont mix everything again (although I doubt it seeing how much you both are biased) Being part of a culture or religion is not being part of a "so called race".
Btw you should be really careful when using the word "race" since it is no longer accepted by modern scholars, ethnologists or anthropologists.
You are here both giving credits to very backwards racial ideologies.

Trollberg you aren't Jewish if you are Christian, that's all. A Muslim converting to Christian faith is no longer Muslim, same applies to you, if of course what you say is real, since you lied so much we cannot even know what is true from what you said.
