You know, andresmb, I'm wondering why you're agreeing with me and disagreeing with Klarik, since I'm basically supporting his arguments, just wording myself better.

@Onoma94

As a casual and sporadic player, havn't gotten involved in playing RT ladder games. That said, the game I invited dear Klarik to is the medium earth Auto Game that has been in the lobby for years, and used for many ladder tourneys.

And he has yet to accept the challenge. He expressed a preference to rematch on his customized 2v2. I'd would take him up on that, but it would need to be 1v1 to remove the variability of allies.

lel I never said I wanted to do a rematch with you. I have nothing to prove. You're an egomaniac and started making a bunch of excuses when you lost the match. If you weren't such a poor sport I would have left you alone but you're so insufferable and egotistical I just had to put it on the forums. You are a joke.

@Death

Oh I wouldn't insult yourself by equating your well reasoned and fleshed out arguments with that of Klarik's.

His arguments summed up---> you lost this one game, you suck because of that, and now you're "salty". Hardly a well rationalized analysis. It's a trolls argument. One that doesn't hold water logically, but one that is appealing to typical internet audiences because of its oversimplification.

And I would remind everyone that it was he who took this publicly. For my part I'm working to dispel the copious amounts of BS, admittedly a loosing battle (see Brandolini's Principle)

Yes, someone who goes through the trouble of making forum post has nothing to prove. You just had to post this. Totally. You just can't accept that you prefer to play games with a healthy home field advantage. Nothing wrong with that, but it is irritating when you go one step further and pretend it was an even playing field.

I invite anyone to look back through the various statements he's made. Pretty self evident this is someone who would rather just spout BS rather than make a reasoned argument.

But hey, it works on the internet. 1st line in a troll's playbook.

Your logic is that any games with non-default settings are set so that the host wins.

nice strawman

Nope. This is a strawman (from earlier)

so blockade cards are very specific and unique apparently.

or this gem

If you get me a statistical breakdown of cards in games and it says that more than half of all games neglect adding cards I will cede your point.

If you have a rational counterpoint to the original statement (your game being an unusual setup that tilts the playing field significantly in your favor) I'd love to hear it. I do insist that it goes beyond simplistic arguments such as "you suck" and "you are salty".

the burden of proof lies upon you not me. You have to prove those settings do tilt it in my favor. But you can't because they don't.

All settings are available for you to read before you join the game, and you have been on Warlight for three years meaning you have had plenty of time to learn how to use blockade cards and the other settings.

If only it were black and white. It's not. I won't pretend it is. However in this instance, having one blockade card per turn on a map with so many bottle necks presents a significant departure from the typical game dynamics and strategy. And it becomes apparent after-the-fact

You're free to disagree, but I doubt you'll run into such a game very often, if at all in the future.

@klarik

All you've done thus far is
1) make a series of ad-hominems, then attack me for even getting close to doing so
2) make outlandish flimsy strawmans, then accuse me of doing so without defending the claim

This is not a court of law. I'm never going to reach a the burden of a reasonable doubt, not without access to the warlight game statistics.

But I do like that you still haven't accepted my 1v1 game using the standard auto map in the lobby. That speaks volumes that you prefer to play games with handicaps in your favor.

That's within your right to do, but you don't get to also pretend that those wins are at all meaningful. Like playing golf from the women's tee box against someone who's hitting from the men's.

You didn't look closely at the map & settings and you lost because of it. The game was weighted towards the host only through your own ignorance, which could have been cured at any point before the game which was not obligatory.

@Smedley

Simply not true. Do you claim to have the ability to read previously unencountered setting/game map pairing, and within minutes understand the game dynamics for that particular setup? Of course you don't. Because the host has the advantage with unique game setups.

And again, I don't have a problem with this FACT. It is part of the game. What I do have a problem with is the way in which some people pretend this home-field advantage isn't there. And instead pretend that they must just be a better player than their opponent.

Is that ego? Sure. But let's be real, anyone who is after a win in this game has their ego involved at some level. Otherwise they wouldn't play.

You don't have to care. Just stop following the thread. Pretty simple solution.

For anyone else who would like to continue making meaningful contributions to this discussion, I welcome it.

You joined a game without reading the settings and had a unlimited amount of time to read those settings beforehand. Do you not have the ability to study a map and a template for , say, 10 minutes to be able to comprehend how to play the template+map?

Klarik doesn't play much on the "standard" 1v1 template. He likes playing on the one he beat you on, because it pleases him. I played one with him yesterday; it was far more fun than the strategic 1v1. Beating him on strat 1v1 is the same as him beating you on his settings.
